Learning About the Life of Ignatius
and Learning How to Use Some Reference Tools in Our Library
September 21-23 Tuesday, Wednesday (possibly Thursday)
Well meet in the library these three days. We will break up into three groups: One group will be on the computer, another group will use the Catholic reference books and the third group will read Fr. OMalleys Life of Ignatius. Every day well rotate the groups so over the three days all will have been on the Internet, visited reference books and read the OMalley article. Students should let the handouts guide their study. Homework for this week is to learn about Ignatius and prepare an essay for the test.
Take notes in your notebook.
DO NOT print out long articles from the Internet at school.

How the Life of Ignatius Illustrates the Idea of ________________
(Choose one key idea from chapters one or two in Zanzig)
Two to three paragraph essay.
1. Clearly and completely state the chosen idea from the text. If there are many parts to the key idea you need to list them all.
2. Show how the life of Ignatius brings this demonstrates this idea. If there are multiple parts above, you need to deal with each that is relevant in this section.
3. You can add closing remarks. This is optional but good. Here you state your personal ideas and feelings about what youve thought about in this essay. In light of the key idea, what can you learn from the life of Ignatius?
* You might check Loneliness and Ignatius to get an idea of what is being asked. This is my essay on a key idea from Zanzigs first text.
Format:
Put name, date and class in the upper left hand corner. Single space this.
Title the essay. Skip lines between your heading and the body of the essay. In your essay include the key idea and and support it with concrete and specific instances and experiences from the life of Ignatius.
The body of the essay should be two or three paragraphs.
Ideally this should be typewritten. Have someone else proofread it before you hand it in. A parent would be a good choice. If someone does do this, have them sign their name on the bottom. Make corrections in pencil.
Complete this time chart of the major events in the life of Ignatius Loyola.
* Use the books in the library, especially the Catholic reference books.
* Read Fr. William OMalleys short biography of Ignatius from The Fifth Week.
