Three Questions to ask at the end of end of a day:
(1) What happened today?
(2) Where was God?
(3) How did I feel when these things were happening and how do I feel now?

We start with Ignatius
• a man of his own time... a canon ball hit his leg and there was a period of convalescence and after, he spent a year in a cave at Manresa wrestling with his own demons about what he had done and what he felt about it...gets such a negative hold on him so badly he contemplated suicide-->
• from this he comes up with a revolutionary concept. God wants to can and does work directly with the human person.

Q: How is this revolutionary and why and how does it get him into trouble?
________________________________________________________________________________________

• Ignatius comes away with a conviction that there are two powers at war in this world: Jesus/God/Good versus Satan/The Father of Lies/Evil.

Q: Where does this battle between good and evil take place?

• Spiritual Exercises: Meditation on the Two Standards.
The Devil sends out demons with a definite battle plan versus Jesus and his battle plan.

The devil sends out ________________. Jesus sends out, not angels, but _______________.
The devil attracts people Jesus stresses
with _________________, ____________________, then
then _______________, ____________________, then
then _______________. ____________________.

Know and understand each of these and see if these apply to you here and now.

_____________________ is the ultimate sin and _______________is the ultimate virtue.

• Three insights into how evil can work: What you need to combat this:

1)______________ the more we keep it secret the more powerful it
becomes; we need to tell this to someone. It’s important you have someone in your life you can
tell things to. “We are as sick as our secrets.”

2) ___________ politically incorrect but Ignatius was a 16th century man...
the devil as a nagging wife, always there prodding us.
We need say “shut up!”

3)_____________ An army commander attacking the fort will survey the castle
and try to find our where the castle is weakest. Our problem is
that we usually do not know where we are weakest.

Know and understand each of these and see if these apply to you here and now.

• Now to complicate this even more, the devil comes up against you who are pretty good guys. The veil one can come to you as “an angel of light.” How can y you know the difference? Ignatius says, follow them and see where they take you. If they take you to God, to good, to others, it’s a good indication that is is from God. If it takes you in the other direction, it’s a good indication of what’s going on. And you learn so that next time you recognize it sooner.

• So that’s the basics: At night you ask yourself what happened today, how did I feel about it and how do I feel about it now, where was God in that?

Good day, feel good about it. Be grateful.

Tough day; some real temptations, Two Kingdoms struggle in you, learn from it.

Do not strive for perfection. That’s usually something from the evil one. Strive to be good.

• Questions: What sort of prayers do you use?
Answer: I like this prayer “Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake, watch over us as we sleep, that awake we may keep watch with Christ, that asleep we may rest in his peace.” I speak to God in my own words, that should be your prayer. Just talk to God. Ignatius says we should spend most of our prayer time in colloquy, which Ignatius describes as “when one friend speaks to another.” Don't’ worry about what prayers to say. Just talk from your heart. Just be yourself. God is fascinated with you. He loves to hear what you have to say.
