Points are earned in this class. These points come from quizzes, tests, some homework assignments, tests and exams. Notebook and text/workbook are usually not graded directly. Class participation is not graded directly.
Purpose of testing is to provide a learning experience for my students. They will be able to become more aware of what they know and what they might not know and need to learn better.
Quizzes, tests and exams will be graded and given back the next class. The assignment that evening is always "correct your test and learn from your mistakes." Students should do this NOT by copying off a classmate but by going back in to their text or notes and figuring out for themselves (a) what the correct answer is and (b) why they did not get this correct on the test.
Misspelling and poor grammar wil be corrected. During the first quarter there will be no penalty but students will be instructed to learn how to spell and to pay attention to grammar.
During the second quarter -1 will be taken off for multiple misspellings or gramatical mistakes.
After the first semester -1 each may be taken off for misspelling of key words or misspeliing of words that the student should know.
Studentswill be taught how to learn from their mistakes. As with spelling and grammar, usually corrections will be made without penalty. For some this is enough for learnnig to occur; for others there needs to be grade consequences.
Grading symbols:
X = wrong answer
= correct answer
"check" = you are close but something in this tells me that you do not really know and understand the answer. Often coupled with a ?, which means "you are close enough to earn the points but check this out out; next time this answer will be incorrect."
If a vocabulary word is misspelled on a test it will be incorrect if it is a word they should know. If it is a word that is very new and/or the spelling varies (some terms and names from Judaism are like this) then the word must be spelled phonetically to earn the point.
