Freshman Theology



The ultimate goal of all that will be done in this class is to bring about a true conversion, a metanoia,* in all in the class, away from selfishness, illusion and many of the dominant values of culture and toward love, truth and the mind and heart of Jesus.

* Greek word indicating a change of mind and heart toward freely trying to take on the mind and heart of Jesus.




I) Goal: Student will come to see himself, and all other human beings as unique in all the world, yet similar to all others in the world.

II) Goal: Student will become aware of the major challenges of freshman year and will acquire strategies for making these challenges real learning opportunities.

III) Goal: Student will develop his knowledge and appreciation of the life of St. Ignatius, the mission and history of the Society of Jesus, and the mission of St. Louis U. High.

IV) Goal: Student will become aware of and begin to understand the social and cultural influences that greatly affect who he is and the kind of person he will become.

V) Goal: Student will see faith and religion as valuable and important aids to answering the important questions of life.

VI) Goal: Students will grow in his knowledge and appreciation of the wisdom, worship and works of Catholic Che> VII) Goal: Student will be able to read, interpret and apply Scripture to his life.

VIII) Goal: Student will gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the wisdom, worship and work of Judaism with the ability to see how these illuminate our knowledge and understanding of our faith.
