THIRD QUARTER EXAM ESSAY
“Why should a Catholic study Hebrew Scripture?” Give/explain at least three different reasons why the study of Hebrew Salvation History can help a person come to better know, understand and follow Jesus. Back up what you say with concrete and specific evidence. This can be an intellectual answer. But if the first three quarters have led you to some “real learning,” this should also be very personal, very concrete and very specific. Hopefully, you have some personal experience of this.
Write in paragraphs, with margins, with proper grammar and spelling. Back up your ideas with reasons, and evidence and examples. Since you’ve had a whole quarter to prepare this, a lot is expected.

Write this as a five paragraph essay:
1st paragraph: Introductory paragraph stating convincingly why you believe it it important to study Hebrew Scriptures and briefly stating the three reasons yo will deal with in the next paragraphs.
2nd paragraph: Give reasons why it is beneficial for anyone to study Hebrew Scriptures, even atheists. In addition to what you learned in the he third quarter in class, you might read the cover story of Time magazine April 2. 2007 "Why We Should Teach the Bible in Public School" or read the big story from USA Today Americans' Get an F in Religion, March 7, 2007.
3rd paragraph: Give reasons why a Christian would benefit form studying the Old Testament. This centers around the need to understand Hebrew Scripture s in order to better know and understand Jesus.
Fourth paragraph: Why a Catholic would benefit from studying Hebrew Scriptures. This includes gaining an insight for better understanding the bliefs and practices of the Catholic Church, e.g. sacraments, liturgical year.
The fifth paragraph will be a statement of your key idea done differently and most forcefully.

Then skip another line and wrrite the five paragraph essay.
