homework The last two weeks of the quarter are usaully not demanding in my classes. This week you have two assignments due on Monday: the bookmark and the Ignatius essay. You also need to continue to learn about Ignatius and study for next week's test.

You will have library time late in the week to work on this too, but get started on Monday. Begin at this site Jesuit Ideals and spend 20-30 minutes exploring.

Block Day, September 21 or 22
class: Video Crisis of Faith. 10 point paper due by Friday. How "Crisis of Faith" Illustrates a Major Idea about Faith." Do one idea really well. You have to show the idea from the text clearly and completely, then concretely and specifically show how the characters or events in the story illustrate this.
Homework: Video essay due Friday.

class Check homework or give reading quiz. List big changes from grade school--and offer some suggestions about how to grow from these.

class Note Chapter Two skeletal outline. Discuss how to do an outline from the text. Begin to show how "worldview" develops and its relevance to us here and now.
homework Continue to R/M/S next section in chapter, pages 46-51. Test on Friday.

10 point assignment due next Monday, Sept. 20. Find some kind of societal message that reflects one of the negative values of our society. It could be an ad, the lyrics of a song, whatever. On one side put the societal message and note where its source. On the other explain how this reflects one of the negative values Zanzig cites in Chapter One of our text. This should be an easy +10. If you get it done early, hand it in.


Wednesday, September 15

    In preparation for this week's Chapter One Test, it would be good for my students to us the on-line review. Cut and past the Chapter One Review from First Quarter Review on a word document and use it to guide your study.

    Anyone who gets a D or an F on this or any test in the first semester will be asked to take this review, write in all the correct answers and define the vocabulary words. Then the student meets with me outside of class and we will correct it together. The student's grade will become a C if everything is done well. If a student does not do this within two days of the return of the test, I will call home and ask for a meeting with the parents and the student.

    Homework Begin parent interview assignment . First step is merely giving the letter to your parent and setting up a time for the interview. Set a time this weekend for your Parent Interview. Make sure you have one hour alone with your parent undisturbed. (2) Read Zanzig pages 14-22. (2a) Strong suggestion: look on student work page for an example of a well done parent interview assignment. (3) Review for mini-test.

    When you do not have any specific homework in a subject, still give 10-15 minutes. Take care of what you did not do or need to do. Learn what you missed. Go over and review all you have done and learned this week.


    Friday, August 27

    homework (2) Read over today's handout. (1) Get parent interview done by Sunday. Begin to, and take some time to, reflect. Do your writing on Monday, a day or two after the interview. Make sure you follow directions.
