  homework Correct the mistakes on your test. Then look over St. Louis U. High's "The Profile of the Graduate at Graduation." There is a copy in your student planner. "In describing the graduate, under five general categories, we chose those qualities which seem most desirable not only for this threshold period, but those which seem most desirable for his adult life. These five general categories sum up the many aspects or areas of life most in accord with a full adult living of the Christian life." In your spiral write down the five categories. This document summarizes a lot about the worldview of this school in its ideals of what a person should try to be.

  homework The American Civil Rights Movement will be an historical event we will visit to illustrate major themes of the course. This web site is a concrete historical example of people who have a worldview and a set of values that led them to do terrible things to their fellow human beings. Notice that in the pictures they pose and are proud of what they did. This is a a very raw site and some students have not been able to take it; they got sick looking at this. If you do feel sick or woozy-STOP! Go on to read the articles at the end. Show this site to your parents and ask them about what they remember about the Civil Rights Movement in the 50s and 60s.

  • Read the introduction. I hope you can view the movie. Our Macs at school should do the job if yours at home does not. In the library you need to bring headphones or borrow them from the librarians.
  • Skim the site. Look and read some of the postcards. Read the back. Take some notes about this site. Cite and describe three of the post cards (or if you have trouble with this, take notes on one of the articles about the exhibit that is noted in the next direction). Do this in your spiral notebook.

Also bring your Understanding Catholic Christianity text and writing utensils. Some of you have not purchased your text because the bookstore is sold out. That's OK. Get the text as soon as possible.
  • Bring home my letter to your parents and give it to them. You can read this and suggest that your parent read my course introduction.
  • Visit my Freshman Theology Web Site Home Page and bookmark it. Show this to your parents. Check out my course website, especially the assignment page and tell them they can look up what we are doing and what the homework is anytime they want. You all can look at my "All-Stars" and see the semester grades for my freshmen. If you do not have the internet at home, do this in our library.

  homework Due Wednesday.
  Ten point homework assignment. Must be neatly done, on looseleaf paper (not spiral notebook paper) with proper heading, margins, and legible writing. After two days at SLUH, you should be able to do this. List and describe three major ways St. Louis U. High differs from your grade school. Then add what you need to do to meet this challenge well. Have someone proofread it! This is due at the beginning of tomorrow's class. After you write (or type) it, put it into your Theology folder so you'll have it for class and you know right where it is! Part of this assignment is checking your ability to follow directions. On Thursday we will list these on the board and discuss them.

  Homework: (1) Glue small "How to Really Get an Assigned Reading" on your folder. (2) Begin parent interview assignment. First step is merely giving the letter to your parent and setting up a time for the interview. (3) Finish student survey.

  class (1) Collect surveys. (2) Return essays and explain grading and how to apporach a teacher about a grade or comment concern (3) Small group work: get into groups of four or five; get to know these guys in your group; each person states what they thought were the three major diffences; then the group decides which three they think are the most important changes from grade school.
  Homework (1) You gave your parent the interview letter yesterday. Set a time for your Parent Interview. Make sure you have one hour alone with your parent undisturbed. This should take two minutes (2) When you do not have any specific homework in a subject, still give 10-15 minutes. Take care of what you did not do or need to do. Learn what you missed. Go over and review all you have done and learned this week. (3) Strong suggestion: look on student work page for an example of a well done parent interview assignment.
