Dear Parent(s),

Welcome to the 2002-2003 school year. We hope this year will be a wonderful year for you and your son. As Senior Advisors we will be present in your son's homeroom until the end of First Semester. Over the past few weeks we have been spending time with your son, from Direction Days to Orientation and the first day of school, in hopes of getting to know your son as well as we can in that short period of time. Based on observation, a survey your son filled out and Freshman/Senior interaction we divided the homeroom into four groups, each led by a Senior. We tried to make the groups as diverse as possible in order to create a broad spectrum of activities and interests in each group so that they might form new friendships with classmates they may have never had the opportunity to get to know in their Freshman year. At the same time, we also tried to form groups that would work well together and find much in common. These smaller groups will allow one Senior to get to know 6-7 Freshmen very well and will allow three small group discussions/advisement periods throughout the First Semester. The small groups allow one Senior to focus most of his attention on a few people and prevent Freshmen from "getting lost in the crowd" without the attention that is much needed in these initial months at SLUH. We hope we can make this year as enjoyable and as easy as possible for you and especially your son.
