Meet the family
My brother and I are two years apart. Being the older, wiser sister, I managed
to play a few tricks on him when we were younger. My first attempt at torturing my brother, Mark, was when he was an infant. I climbed into my brother's crib with a tube of tooth paste in hand. Then I innocently covered his body with tooth paste. Seconds later my mother found me smiling and shockingly asked, "Kristin, where did you put the tooth paste cap?"
I proudly responded, "In Marky's mouth."
Every family has their own hilarious, happy, and embarrassing memories to share--believe me I have many more to share. First, I'll introduce you to my family.
Mom and Dad
My parents, Karen and Leonard have been married for almost 30 years. They have successively raised three children together who are now all adults. Karen works as a dietitian at Franciscan Skemp Clinic. In her spare time, she loves to garden, walk, bike, read, cook, camp, and travel. She also loves to spend summer days in Yucatan where they own 90 acres. My mother is the one who takes charge in the family. She is a wonderful supporter and always brings the family together. Karen is an intelligent, compassionate, determined mother who always puts everyone's needs before her own. My mother deserves a long vacation to anywhere she desires. Leonard works at the post office as a mail carrier. He is the brave, patient one delivering in ice, rain, and heat. Leonard has an obsessive love for John Deere tractors. Even though we live in town, he owns several. In his spare time repairs and refinishes them in the garage. If he doesn't have a tractor to fix, he always has the unexpected repairs of his son or daughters' cars to keep him busy. My dad loves classical music so much he listens to it in the garage while doing mechanical repairs. He also enjoys singing in the church choir, playing the tuba, writing letters to me every week, traveling, and working out at the "land." My dad is a sweet, caring, mellow fellow who is looking forward to retirement. He also deserves to fulfill his dream of traveling to Alaska.
Brother and Sister
My bro, Mark, is a good sport. If you think the tooth paste incident was bad, well it's not. Since my brother and I are two years apart, we were close growing up and always "played" together. Being the older sibling, he would agree with my decision to play Barbie's. When we would take summer road trips or go to Grandma's, the Barbie's would come along. We would feed them left over McDonald's French fries and treat them as real people. Ken and Golf Barbie would be placed in the window sill of the car to see the view of the river. Yes, very cheesy. I don't think our "play" time together effected him too much. Mark is a rebellious teenager like them all. He just needs to work on not getting caught (hehe). He is a social guy who is into girls, pumping base car stereo systems, hanging out with friends, playing golf, and playing video games.
My sis, Erica, is five years older than me. Seventh grade was the only year that I shared the same school with her. She was a "cool senior" while I was the younger image. Erica graduated from St. Olaf with a performing music major. She is the most talented flutiest I've ever heard. She inherited my dad's music talent and developed it ever since Elementary school. Now she gives flute lessons in Rochester every Monday. The rest of her week is spent working at Leithold's music store. Erica loves to read, travel, hike, practice, and act. She would love to go back to school and earn her masters in performing music. She could recite words of wisdom learned through life's experiences. She is a talented, intelligent, caring person. Her nose is always in a philosophy book absorbing theories and learning from other authors true life stories. Erica loves to stay busy and have intense conversations with a good friend.
Myself
Lastly, there is middle me. I am nineteen and attending UWEC hoping to earn a social work degree. I'm being slapped in the face with how little high school prepares you for college or life for that matter; however, I love the challenge and I strive for the knowledge. I enjoy watching horror and Jim Carrey movies. I want to watch every movie made before I die whether it's a good or bad movie. I love to hike, exercise, travel, read, listen to music, play the flute, and hang out with friends, family, and my boyfriend. This semester I started volunteering at a community-based residential home for the elderly and I love it. Aging is a tough road to travel, but everyone goes through it and I learn first hand by getting to know residents. I'm more than ready for a break from college and I only have five more days to endure. Then I'm off to visit relatives in Kansas and relax!
