Explorer Post 400
                                                  About us
More than 100 young adults, ages 14 to 19, participate in St. Lucie County Sheriff's Explorer Post 400, supervised by a Sheriff sergeant.

The participants, who have expressed an interest in a criminal justice career, attend training each week, studying law enforcement-related topics, volunteer their time within the Sheriff's Office and perform countless hours of community service at functions in St. Lucie County.

"The Explorers assist us in countless ways" says St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara. "Explorers help at the county fair, at parades, parking at the county jail, Crime Stoppers, the Exchange Club Castle Chili Cook off, neighborhood watch program just to name a few. Explorer programs are well supervised activities that bring out the finest in our young people."

Community service projects include beach cleanups, fingerprinting children at numerous locations throughout the county, assisting with parking at the St. Lucie County Fair, parking at the Greek Festival, and Polish American Club, visiting the elderly at Nursing Homes, and feeding the needy at Thanksgiving.

Explorers raise funds to support many of their programs through an annual fishing tournament, car washes, an annual Civil War battle reenactment, cookie and pizza sales and other events.

The junior cadet program focuses on those ages 10 to 13, who learn crime prevention, participate in character building programs and learn basic skills such as fingerprinting.

Explorers attend statewide conferences for law enforcement-related Explorer posts, where they compete in law enforcement competitions and increase their knowledge of the criminal justice system.
