SLSCC
vs. HKU played at Sandy Bay on December 1st 2002
HKU were host to SLSCC
today, 1 Dec 2002.
Captains: Jerry
Rajakulendran (SLSCC), Haresh Vaswani (HKU)
Though Jerry tried his
utmost to get the game cancelled , the rains cleared and the match started on
time under overcast conditions. Having won the toss HKU chose to bat first, and
that decision by the acting HKU captain Haresh was vindicated by a fine opening
stand of around 45 before the first wicket fell. Several HKU players scored 35
runs and retired contributing to a healthy final total of 240 runs. The best
bowler for SLSCC was Ajith with 3 for 60. Girri also bowled well, but the
others found bowling against a gusting wind difficult.
SLSCC started the run
chase disastrously with the loss of the star opener Girri. A good partnership
of around 60 runs between Buw and Channa kept the visitors in the game. Rukman,
Bertram and Ajith all contributed to the score subsequently keeping the SLSCC
in the hunt until nearly the 30th over. Although the required run rate was
maintained , the regular loss of wickets meant the the HKU total could not be
reached, and SLSCC were all out for 197 runs. Channa was the only player who
reached 35 runs.
Both teams played the game
in a friendly manner and a good time was had by all. Our thanks to HKU for
giving us this game.
