SLSCC vs.
HKUST played at HKUST (artificial grass/Flicx pitch) on September 1st
2002
HKUST were host to SLSCC
today, 1 Sept 2002.
Captains: Troy Dias (SLSCC), Senthil Subramanian
(HKUST)
Toss was won by HKUST
under overcast conditions & after much deliberations, SLSCC were put into
bat.
SLSCC were all out for
215. Rukman Muthukuda & Nilesh were the top scorers.
HKUST went into bat and
was struggling half way other than for Ravi.G who was back in the pavilion in
mandatory retirement after 35 runs. SLSCC for their part decided to call in all
their players to have a bowl beginning with our newly elected President and yet
on course to victory when Ravi Goonetilleke came out of retirement with 38 runs
needed and ended the game in favour of HKUST with a late flourish to snatch a
thrilling victory in the penultimate ball of the final over.
Another sterling
performance by Ravi.G and it appears that he remains a thorn for the SLSCC
every time we meet them and Andrew Burd, who dropped anchor at one end, ably assisted
him.
All in all, the game was
quite exciting, as it had to go to the wire for a decision and was played in
good spirit.
The amusing moment was an
umpire of the UST and according to some players of SLSCC was acting like a scarecrow
as both his arms were out stretched wide consistently the duration at the
wicket as an adjudicator. Anyway, this crack was one of those lighter moments.
SLSCC wish to extend
thanks to Ravi and other members of the HKUST Team.
The facilities & new
wicket surface and grounds were absolutely fine for a game of cricket.
