Grasslands of the Gran Chaco
An extensive lowland plain, the Gran Chaco extends into Paraguay and Argentina.  This region has some of the highest temperatures in South America.  During the rainy season, parts of the grassland can become swamps, with scattered forests of dense thornbrush and quebracho trees.  The plain becomes increasingly dry, covered with thornbush and cacti, as they reach towards the foot of the Andes.  Many hunters come to the Gran Chaco, especially for game birds such as doves.  Some believe that the Inka came to these arid lands to hunt as well.
