The Sea Pen (Pennatulacea) is actually a colony of polyps like many of the other Anthozoans it is related to. Unlike its relatives, the Sea Pen has two types of polyps: the center 'stem' is actually a single polyp that has lost its tentacles! The second type of polyp form the feathers. Sea pens live stuck upright in the mub or sand with the feathers standing up. |
