Changi Beach

It was a lovely, breezy afternoon with paraboarders dotting the horizon:

They were racing in and out trying to get enough speed to launch themselves into the air:

Of course there were quite a few novices trying to learn and either they or their chutes would sink into the water ever so often, a reminder that it's actually quite a difficult sport.

Dead Grouper Washed Ashore However, along the beach we found quite a few large dead fish. A lot (about half a dozen) of them were groupers:

We're wondering what caused this number of deaths among the large fish - there were no dead small fish washed ashhore. Abandoned catch? A storm? Disease?

Unusual Crab More usual were two large Coastal Horseshoe Crabs (Tachypleus gigas) and this unusual crab whose photograph is on the left.

We also found a large Volute.

The highlight though was this Sea Hare (photographs below):

White-bellied Seaeagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster) Above was a majestic White-bellied Seaeagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster). It was soaring stately overhead when I took these shots. I had presumed it was hunting so imagine my surprise when I spotted this fish in its claws after I downloaded the photos into my computer:

It's times like these when I wish I had a longer lens... but then I'd have to lug the weight around everywhere.
