Bush Again Monday 14 July 2008 Talk about brazen - President Bush's farewell gesture at the G8 Summit was to punch the air with the words "Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter!" Andrew Grice of The Independent called it "a two-fingered salute". In Americanese, that means a middle-fingered salute (ie F You!). But of course there is nothing the rest of the world can do about the current American regime's refusal to cooperate. Mind you, people are now counting down the seconds till Bush is out of office. The right-wing flagship, the National Review, has a lovely mind-bending commentary on the G8 Summit by John O'Sullivan. Anti-Americanism? Sorry Republicans, but being hostile to you and your core values doesn't make me anti-American. You don't represent the majority of Americans by a long shot. Daniel Kurtzman's Political Humor Blog at About.com gives a nice summary of Bush's unique brand of diplomacy. The site's poll shows a third considering Bush a 'Clueless moron' but I don't think he's unintelligent. Rather, he's a determined go-getter who doesn't give a d**n about the side effects of his actions. Mind you, being part of the 90% of the world that experiences his side effects, you'll have to forgive me for not appreciating him. Hopefully Obama will bring better times. |
