I had the opportunity to taste salak pondoh - it's slightly drier and more crumbly varriety of salak with two seeds instead of three. Seems that one of the segments in this variety of salak has shrunk abd become sandwiched between the other two. For comparison, photos of the typical three-segmented salak can be found below.
I understand that salak pondoh is from the area around Yogyakarta.
Now all I need to do is find salak bali.
