Freedom takes time, not just democracy.
You've got to hold your line,
bade them on their lies,
then face them as they run away.
Some may call me callous, callow, and afraid
but emotions ride like tides, they swallow then evade.

Look at the way our land mines were designed
wartime artifacts left upon the ground
to be found by children in Iraq.
All the weapons, training, and money that we gave
fuel the terrorist tyrant dictators that we made.

Look at what we've come to believe,
virtue now is arduous in heart to conceive,
we might be learning in our yearning
for the length of freedom's ring,

They don't mean a thing.
A scrutinizing eye
can ward off complacency.
Attention to detail prevails
as the key to good democracy.
Lesser known men by far have done greater things than the polished figureheads that stand in office silently corroding our government
