This was the year of new beggings for Te Mokai, there were to be two cahnges to the line up for this year D Hooper was to leave the band after the first South Island stint only to be replaced by D Peachey, D Hoopers first cousin,  who joined us down South in August for our demo recordings done in Christchurch in George Kahi's studios.  We were to jam out at a number of venues down the South Island but only going as far as Timaru. It was a very good experiance and alot of fun but at the same time a bit tiring.  As Well as the tours Roger and I spent alot of time in the studio's mixing down stuff until early hours of the morning sometimes until daylight while the rest were resting at the place we were staying at. the line up stayed the same until 1990 when there were a number of changes to the groupTe Mokai 1990

There was to be a number of changes to the group around the end of 1990, this was the year that I left the group after the South Island tour during late October.  The South Island tour went down really well and thanks to the support of Reachout on this tour we were able to handle the logistics of moving from venue to venue. It was also an awesome time for Reachout and their brilliant performances throughout the Southern Schools and other venues oraganized for them to Jam at.

Te Mokai went through some  major changes during 1991 with the departure of H Biddle during the end of the year.  It was about October  a month after coming back from Christchurch after finishing off our demo album,  an album that held promising prostpects for Te Mokai but was to never be finished due to four members leaving the band within 4 - 5 months of each other.  Te mokai was to go through another two changes before finally disbanding.

Te Mokai The End

Once you stood like a Totara Tree, gently swaying in the breeze, I hear the whispers in the air, and I cry.  So here the story ends almost a decade of music running through our veins, we had  highs and lows.  We laughed together and cried together.  Our bond was as strong as the Totara Tree, a strong whanau bond that would hold us together over all those years.  Symbols of Maoridom and the achievements we endeavoured to hold dear to.  But through it all there were individual achievements to be had by ex members,  new families, new musical careers and a endless love of music that lives within those who gave of there time and lives to be a part of New Zealand original bilingual songsters.  This is dedicated to all those who were a part of Te Mokai Roopu Waiata.
