In the sixties,I was given a Scalextric set for Christmas and this started my affair with model car racing. Although I progressed to racing slot cars, my love was always fiddling , building and modifying cars at home. Unfortunately sold off my early collection at the beginning of the 70's .
A chance gift in the 80's of a very old Scalex set , started the urge to collect and race cars again.
At the start of the 80's I was privaledged to marry a beautiful Italian lady and have a family of 4 wonderful children.
In the nineties I was lucky to co-own a commercial slot raceway for a while. A great experience to see the other side of the coin. At the end of the nineties for business reasons, I moved to France for 31/2 years and the UK for 1 1/2 years. I returned to SA at the end of 2003.
The period in France, which ,imho, must be the most beautiful country in Europe, I was able to fulfil a life long dream to attend Le Mans with my son (several times), and my love of this event will remain forever. At the same time., I attended the annual Vintage International Slot Meet in Bordeaux. This enabled me to meet many of the wonderful and colourful characters in the slot car world. This is a weekend of superb slot racing, as well as then being able to tou the Bordeaux wine region as well as the Congnac area in France for a few days, and then attend the greatest Sports car event in the world - fantastic!
Now I am a basement racer as well as a club racer with a love of kitbashing, scratchbuilding , as well as participateing in selected national slot racing events. I do from time to time have cars for sale, mainly via e-bay.
