Giles SLOCUM

Admitted freeman of newport, RI in May 1720.


Joseph SLOCUM

Was admitted freeman of Newport, RI in 1722. He was named in his father's will of 13 Jan 1731, as joint executor with his brother Holder, but in a letter of 5 Feb 1732, he declined to act in this capacity and requested that Holder assume all control of the estate. Joseph succeeded his father in posession of Patience Island in Narragansett Bay. Probate records of 24 Apr 1741, show that he transferred two shares in the Newport Town Wharf to Henry Collins and others. Joseph had smallpox along with sons Peleg and John, in 1739 and were treated at Coasters Harbor near Newport.
