Settled on Canonicut Island, Jamestown Township, , RI where he received land from his father by a deed dated 25 Oct 1678. He was Deputy for jamestown to the RI General Asembly in 1679 and sometimes served as speaker for that body for much of the time until his death in 1715. He presided over the general electon of officers in Jamestown in 1682 and was chosen to serve as councilman and Herd Warden and to chair as Moderator of the Jamestown Town Meetings. He was one of the early proprietors of tEast greemwich Township, RI and drew lot #36 in Jun 1700. He was a minister in the Society of Friends and deeded the Society land for a meeting house at Jamestown and at South Kingstown.
