John Charles SLOCUMB

They settled on a plantation four miles south of Goldsboro until 1 Apr 1855, when they move d to the city of Goldsboro, Wayne, North Carolina, USA. He served as a member of the Wayne C ounty Special Court for thirty years. and was Chairman of the Inferior Court for several year s. In 1834 he was converted, under the ministry of Rev. John Tillett and joined the Methodis t Episcopal Church of Goldsboro and served as a delegate for their conferences.

Charles Bensen SLOCUM

His parents died in his infancy and he was reared by friends on a farm near Phillipstown, Whi te, Illinois, USA. He enlisted in the Union Army in 1863 in Company C, 136th Regiment Illino is Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged as a sargeant on22 Oct 1864. In January 1866 he re moved from Phillipstown to Marshalltown, Marshall ,Iowa, USA where he attended the Marshallto wn Academy and clerked in a store. In 1868 he entered Baldwin University at Berea, Cuyahoga , Ohio, USA where he studied for two years. They have since awarded him a Master of Arts deg ree. He then returned to Marshalltown as the principal of the high school and studied for th e bar. He was admitted to the bar in Sep 1872. In the spring of 1873 he removedto Fairbury , Jefferson, Nebraska, USA, where he resides and practices law. He was elected as aRepresent ative to the Nebraska State Legislature for a two year term in 1880 and served on the Financ e and Ways and Means Committee.
