Thomas Wright SLOCUMB

He attended school at Goldsboro and entered Trinty College, but failing health prevented hi s finishing. He entered the North Carolina Military Institute at Charlotte in 1861. He enli sted in the Confereracy on 1 june 1861 as a private in theGoldsboro Rifles which became th e Company A, 27th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry. He fought at New Berne, North Carolin a in Mar 1862 and was made a Leiutenant in April 1862. He fought in the battles around Richm ond, Virginia, from Mechanicsburg to Malvern hill. He participated in the first Maryland Cam pain and was present at the capture of Harper's Ferry on 15 Sep 1862. After the Battle of Sh arpsburg, he resigned his commission due to poor health, but re-enlisted the followingsprin g as a private in Company H, 1st Regiment, North Carolina Calvary and participated in the Bat tle of Gettysburg. He was wounded in the left forearm at the Battle od Brandy Station and ne arly lost his life to erysipelas and gangrene. He was appointed Assistant Adjutant General o f North Carolina troops at Raleigh until the surrender at Greensboro, North Carolina on 26 Ap ril 1865.

Resides at Goldsboro, where he is an agent for the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad.

They removed to a plantation near Hernando, De Soto County, Mississippi, USA in 1840 where h e still lives.

Hiram Wildeman HUSTED

Graduated from Yale College in 1823 and went to North Carolina to teach school. He studied l aw and was admitted to the bar and practiced in Raleigh, North Carolina. He held for a tim e the Office of U.S. District Attorney.


Delano W. HUSTED

Graduated from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in June 1854 in law. Entered practice with Judg e Revis in Gainesville, Alabama. He there enlisted as a Lieutenant in the Confederate Arm y in the 5th Alabama Battalion. He fought at the Battle of Manassas in July, 1861 and was ki lled leading a charge of Archer's Brigade at Richmond, Virginia.
