Alderman for Troy, NY forseven years from 1841 and treasurer for Rensselae r Co unty for seven years. Elected Representative to the 33rdU.S. Congress for two terms, fr om 1 853 to 1857 and was the first to advocate the purchase of Mount Vernon,VA by the Federa l Gove rnment.
