They removed to Bristol, RI and then in London, England an d N ewport, Isle of Wight. They then returned home to Providence, RI and late in life to Smi thfi eld and then Pawtucket, RI. He began as a carpenter and while in England he invented an d pat ented a wrought iron nail and also, the first machine to manufacture a solid headed pin . H e operated this machine in Poughkeepsee, NY under the firm name of Slocum, Jillson & Com pany , which was merged into the American Pin Company.
