Removed with his parents to vicinity of Wilkes-Barre, PA about 1774. Was involved and escap e d the massacres that devastated the Wyoming Valley, PA. After marriage, theyremoved to Du ch ess County, NY,thence to Saratoga Twp., Saratoga, NY in1786. In 1806, they moved to Clave rac k, Columbia, NY and remainedthere nine years before returning to Schulerville, Saratoga , NY . He was a member of the Scociety of Friends. He was a farmer early in life and, later , a n inn keeper and merchant.

the Wyoming Massacre, and was one of only 15 survivors.

Reared near Wilkes-Barre, PA from age twelve or fifteen. Was wounded in the heel by a musk e t ball 16 Dec1778 at the time his father and grand-father Tripp were killed by indians. Pi on eer residents of Exeter, Luzerne, PA. Sheriff of Luzernefrom 1795 to 1799. He then retir e d to his farm at Pittston, Luzerne, PA where served as Justice of the Peace in 1806.
