Henry Howland CRAPO

After marriage, he farmed and taught school at Dartmouth, MA. Removed to New Bedford, M A i n 1832, where he held various public offices, includinga colonelcy inthe Massachusetts Mi liti a. He made large sums from investments in \whaling. He purchased a large tract of fore st la nd in Michigan and settled there in Flint in 1856. He engagrd in the cutting and saleo f lumb er in Flint, Holly Fentonville and Detroit. He was instrumental inthefoundingof the F lint an d Holly Railroad andserved as its president until its consolidationwiththe Pere Marqu ette Ra ilroad Company. He served as mayor of Flint and was elected to the State Senate in 1 862 repr esenting Genesee County. He was elected Governor of Michigan in 1864, as aRepublica n, and h eld that office for four years.

Caleb SLOCUM

Enlisted as a private in the Civil War on 11 June 1861, and advanced to rank of First Lieute n ant by the close of his two year enlistment. Served in Company A, 35th Regiment, NY V.I. a n d participated at the battles Manassas, 2nd Bull Run, Chantilly, South Mountain, Antietam , Fr edericksburg, Rappahannock, White Sulphur Springs and Groveton. Batchelor residing at E van' s Mills, Jefferson, NY.
