A Captain in the War of Independence and afterward served in the west under General Anthon y W ayne. He was raised in Newport,RI and became a First Mate on an East India merchantman . Aft er thirteen years of seafaring, he became a farmer and removed to Monkton Twp, Addison , VT, f rom where he voluteered as a soldier in the War of 1812, and fought at the Battle o f Plattsbu rgh, NY. In 1834, they removed to North Chenango, Crawford, PA. He removed to N E with son S amuel E. in 1864.
