How To Feed Your Snake
The way you feed your snake is something that you should take very seriously. The reason for most snake bites is because of a trained reaction that psychologists call conditioning. Most people feed their snake in their cage and that is where the problem begins. Most people don't handle their snake as much as they should and the only time they go into the cage is to change the water and feed the snake. What happens is the snake gets conditioned that when the cage door opens, food comes in and the snake strikes. That is the reason why a lot of people have a hard time getting their snake out of the cage without getting bit. Never feed your snake in the cage!!! Depending on the size of your snake, a paper bag, box, trash can, and even bathtub for the big snakes can be used. When I feed my smaller snakes like the kings, small pyhtons and boas, I like to use a plastic filing box that I got Target. It's not air tight and it latches closed so the snake can't escape. They are masters of that if you give them the opportunity. For larger snakes like Burmese Pythons I feed them in a trashcan with a lockable lid. By taking these precautions, you can avoid injury to yourself and to the snake. Now the other part you need to think about is whether you feed the snake live or pre-killed rodents. I highly recommend pre-killed for several reasons. The first reason is to avoid an injury to your snake. I learned the hard way. I lost a Brazilian Rainbow Boa because a rat ate a hole in the snakes head. The second reason why is because if the snake doesn't die, you will have a very expensive hospital bill to repair your injured snake. So remember, by feeding your snake prekilled rodents and not in its cage, your snake will be happy and so will you.
