Zeus
Male Dumeril's Boa
We got Zeus at the Kansas City show.
He is a gorgeous Dum, light colored with a slight zig-zag in his pattern.
Our experience with Dumeril's taught
us that they are calm, slow Boas. Zeus broke the pattern. He is as fast
as a cornsnake and about as jittery as a Honduran Milksnake at times. Dumeril's
Boas are endangered in the wild. They are found only on Madagascar and
we hope to breed our pair when they are old enough.
Zeus has been a bit of a challenge, like most Dumeril's.
He is still refusing to eat anything except live mice, but he is growing
and is ver healthy. He was part of a future breeding pair, but the female
died as a result of injuries suffered when their enclosure was overturned
by a 9 foot Burmese Python that got loose. So, he's waiting for us to find
him a new girlfriend.
Zeus measured in at a little over 26 inches. That's
bigger than he was, but not as big as we'd like him to be right now. As
soon as we get him switched to frozen/thawed we can feed him a bit more.
Still, he's healthy, growing, and has calmed down.....he acts like a Dumeril's
Boa now.
