cold beer in starkville-now or never!
The Story, Part One-Background
The issue of beer legalization in Starkville has been a controversial issue for decades. The last major student movement resulted in the legalization of beer and light wine for sale in stores and restaurants. The law requires that only restaurants qualified with ABC licences can serve cold drinks. The stores are required by law to sell their alcoholic beverages unrefrigerated. The ordinance that eventually passed on February 24, 1981 was based on a similar ordinance being enforced in Oxford at the time. The law passed due to massive student involvement-students

called voters to inform them about the vote, pressed city officials to act by signing a petition, and generally made noise until something was done. This should serve as an example for how changes should be made in Starkville-by friendly dissenting and dedicated students. Since the legalization of beer in Starkville, the students have been pushing for the next step-cold beer legalization. This has been proven to be a goal that will take as much student involvement and cooperation with the community as the beer legalization push.
