The results are in and the evidence is overwhelming! When students
read more, five things occur.
- Reading comprehension improves
- Spelling improves
- Grammar improves
- Vocabulary improves
- Writing style improves
(Krashen, Stephen. The Power of Reading.
Englewood, Col: Libraries Unlimited, 1993)
With the amount of emphasis currently being placed on reading scores
we need to make sure that the students Read! Read! Read!
We are fortunate to have an administration that supports reading with
the Sustained Independent Reading program. Make sure that you are
doing what you can to encourage students during this time. Let us
know what we can do to help you in this regard.

There are several ways in which you can help to promote
reading @ your library. One is by Requesting
Books for the library. Another is by submitting a book review
for the students. And if you have a list of recommended reading
for your classes, you may bring a copy to the library and we will add
it to our list of Teacher's Recommended Reading and post it in the Reading
Room, the student's reading page on this site.
