A calendar is kept in the library for scheduling time
for class instruction and research. With the increased amount
of research required of students, be sure to plan ahead. The calendar
fills quickly!

How can we help with the lesson planning? Do your
students need instruction on any of the following?
-
basic research
-
how to search the internet effectively
-
how to find primary source material
-
how to prepare a bibliography
After signing up for time in the library, you'll be
asked to fill out a short form about the assignment so that we can better
coordinate our efforts. You can download the Assignment Form now.

Library Passes
All students are required to have a written pass to
be in the library. Library Passes are provided for all teachers
at the beginning of the school year. You can request additional
ones to be placed in your box (we don't like to give them out to students
for obvious reasons). You can also download a master of the Library
Passes.
Network Passes
To use the Networked computers at any time during the
school day (anytime other than before or after school - yes this includes
lunch time), a student must have a Computer Network Pass from a teacher
AND an LHHS Student ID with the Net Sticker. This is per district policy.
Students often mistakenly believe that these are only required if they
are to be accessing the internet. It is in fact required any time they
are on the Networked Computers regardless of what is being accessed.
A master of the Computer Network Passes is given to each teacher at
the beginning of the school year. A master is also placed in each
sub folder. You can request an additional one be placed in your
box or you can download one now.

A Teachers Guide to Requesting Books for
the Library
State funds have been allocated for school
libraries to replace the aging materials in their collections.
These funds may be used to purchase books, software, or AV materials
that will be housed in the library. We are asking your suggestions
for library materials to purchase which will be used by your students
to support the curriculum you teach.
Following are several quick ways to look
for book title suggestions after you have checked the resources we currently
have:
-
Do a subject search on the internet
in Amazon, Barnes
& Noble, or another book sales outlet. Check the reviews
provided for each title. Print out a list of the titles you
want.
-
Fill out the attached slip, providing
me with keywords to search. I will do a search for you on
the Follett Library Book Company's internet selection tool.
I can also give you Follett's web address so that you can do your
own search of their catalog on the internet. Reading levels,
interest levels and citations of journal reviews are indicated in
the Follett records.
-
Come to the library to pick up a form
to fill out, providing the information we need to purchase books
you already know you would like to see added to our collection.
e.g. books you have seen at conferences, suggestions in curricular
bibliographies, etc.
Please help your students by providing
the library staff with information on books you would like your student
to be able to use in the LHHS Library.
Thanks for your input!
