The Proton Lab
Welcome to The Proton Lab. Here you'll learn all about the awesome Equipment used by the Ghostbusters in Ghostbusters II that was used to Nuke the Spooks. This page has many details on much of the Equipment. You'll even get to learn a little bit on some of the Equipment used in the original Ghostbusters movie.
The Proton Pack
A Ghost Gets Entangled In The Particle Thrower's Particle Stream
Proton Pack
The #1 piece of Equipment in the Ghostbusting Arsenal: The Proton Pack! Easily the best Ghostbusting Weapon, it simply cannot be beaten. Not even the Ecto-1, Ecto-1A, nor PKE Meter come close to this. It is the mainly-used Ghostbusting Weapon and the most useful (and the most powerful). The Proton Pack is an Unlicensed Nuclear Accellerator Backpack that consists of raw Nuclear Energy and Protons (duh!). The Proton Pack is mounted onto an A.L.I.C.E. Pack Frame with adjustable Shoulder and Kidney Straps (not shown) and the Proton Pack consists of two parts: The Nuclear Accellerator Backpack and a Particle Thrower (The Gun). Once you switch the Proton Pack on, you can also switch on the Particle Thrower. The Accellerator Accellerates the Protons from the Pack into the Particle Thrower, and you get an extremely powerful and destructive Particle Stream that consists of Protons and Raw Nuclear Energy and is capable of entangling a Ghost against it's will for a temporary amount of time (an excellent way to think of the Particle Stream would be as a Lasso for Ghosts, because that's what it basically does. When you throw a Rope around an Animal and entangle it, you hold it against it's will for as long as you can. That's what you basically do when Blasting a Ghost with the Particle Stream, entangling it for as long as you can). Now, your probably wondering: how can a Nuclear Particle Accellerator 'Bust a Ghost like that? Well, wonder no more. First, let me explain a Ghost's "body" structure: all Ghosts are made up of Psycho Kinetic Energy (which consists of Electrons, Neutrons, and Ectoplasm). The Electron is one of the three elements in an Atom (the other two being the Proton and Neutron). Electrons carry a negative charge (as does Ectoplasm), whereas a Neutron has no charge, and a Proton has a positive charge. We all know that negative energy is no match for positive energy... at all. When you fire the Particle Stream at a Ghost, it'll entangle them in the Stream and leave them helpless. The Particle Thrower also features a switch that makes the Stream extend longer (which is extremely helpful when fighting Ghosts that fly high and are really fast). The Proton Cells in the Pack also have a half-life of 5, 000 years and Power for the Proton Pack isn't at all a problem (in other words, the Proton Pack practically has Infinite Ammunition). 5, 000 years is a long time from now!

Safety Precautions: There are about two warnings about the Proton Pack that should be taken very seriously. First, DON'T CROSS THE STREAMS!!! Why? It's kinda hard to explain, but let me put it this way: try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every Molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light. That, my fellow Ghostbuster(s), is called Total Protonic Reversal, and believe me, the sight of TPR isn't at all pretty (there have been times when the Streams were Crossed and nothing happened, but that is extremely unlikely and rare, and you still shouldn't Cross the Streams). The other warning is that always keep track of how long you use the Pack; if you use it for an extended amount of time, the Pack will overheat, and if/when it does, DON'T USE IT!!! If you use an overheated Proton Pack, you take a huge risk of the Pack exploding, possibly taking you along with it. Give an overheated Pack some time to cool off (and in case your interested, the explosion of a Proton Pack is really big and nasty...).

The Electromagnetic Field Emerges And Nets The Ghost. He Later Gets Sucked Into The Trap
The Ghost Trap
Ghost Trap
Unfortunately the Proton Pack isn't capable of destroying a Ghost (how can you kill something that's already dead?). You can't kill a Ghost, you can only hope to contain it, and with the Ghost Trap, you can accomplish that. The Trap is an Electromagnetic Field Generator that is encased in an extremely strong and powerful Steel Grid and the EMF sucks Ghosts into it (kinda like a Vacuum Cleaner). The Trap is connected to a six to eight feet Cable Wire which is connected to a Stomp-on Pedal (not shown). The Cable Wire can be worn on a tiny Hook/Notch on a Pistol Belt. How do you use the Trap? Well, first, it's highly recommended that you have at least one other Ghostbuster with you; it's extremely difficult to entangle a Ghost in a Particle Stream and Trap it at the same time (not to mention downright dangerous and risky). Now, let me explain: let's say your the Trap 'Buster, and your fellow Ghostbuster is the Pack 'Buster, and the Pack 'Buster has a Ghost entangled in a Particle Stream. You roll the Trap underneath the Ghost, stomp hard on the Pedal twice (Stomp 1 will open the doors, Stomp 2 will generate the EMF) and there you go! The Trap also runs on a rechargeable battery that lasts up to 48 Hours, so after Trapping a Ghost, be sure to get to the Firehouse Headquarters as soon as possible, so you can Contain the Ghost in the Ecto Containment Unit and recharge the Trap's Battery.

Safety Precautions: DON'T LOOK DIRECTLY INTO THE TRAP!!!
If you do, your Retinas will burn right off and render you completely blind! And as said earlier, after Trapping a Ghost, get to the Firehouse Headquarters as soon as you can, because after 48 Hours, the Energy in the Trap (sort of) expires, and the Ghost can go free, forcing you to 'Bust it all over again!

Ray Stantz Uses The PKE Meter To Detect Ghosts And/Or Paranormal Activity In The Area He's In
The PKE Meter
PKE Meter
Arguably the 2nd most useful Ghostbusting tool next to the Proton Pack. The PKE Meter works simply: it tracks down a Ghost by it's PKE (Psycho Kinetic Energy). As stated earlier in the Proton Pack's profile, Ghosts consist of PKE and Ectoplasm. The PKE Meter detects PKE in the area. It's easy to tell when there's a Ghost in your area with this; the lights flash and blink at a dizzying rate, and there's a very rapid beeping sound. The PKE Meter also gives you the Class of the Ghost. The PKE Meter is especially useful when tracking down invisible Ghosts, and is a great way to plan for the Ghost 'Bust, as you'll get the Ghost's Class and will be able to plan a way to 'Bust it and (*possibly*) be prepared for what it might do. The PKE Meter's Energy can be restored with some strong Batteries, but it can also be plugged into the Proton Pack to give it semi-Infinite Energy (what I mean by semi-Infinite is that as long as it's plugged into the Proton Pack it won't run out of Energy, but when it's unplugged, it needs Batteries to Energize/Re-Energize it). It's strongly recommended that you carry the PKE Meter at all times in addition to your Proton Pack, Ghost Trap, and Ecto-Goggles.

Safety Precautions: Be extremely careful of what classes of Ghosts your reading and keep an Eye on the lights; if the Meter picks up too many readings, it may explode and seriously injure you...

The Ecto-Goggles
This Is What Your View Is Like When Wearing The Ecto-Goggles. They Help Make Ghosts Visible To The Naked Eye
Ecto-Goggles
One of the top four most useful tools in the Ghostbusting Arsenal (the other three being the Proton Pack, Ghost Trap, and PKE Meter). The Ecto-Goggles sort of work like the Meter. They function like Infrared and Night-Vision Goggles. This allows you to see Ghosts, and this is really useful when fighting Ghosts and when your attempting to 'Bust one at the same time. Many Ghosts are invisible to the naked Eye, but with this, that is no longer a problem. The Ecto-Goggles are basically Night-Vision/Infrared Goggles with some sort of device installed in it to make Ghosts visible. A better example of the Ecto-Goggles would be that they work like Thermal Scanners (which help you see spots in Warm Temperatures). The Ecto-Goggles also have Night-Vision and Infrared modes in addition to the Normal mode. I could go on forever how useful the Goggles are, but I'll leave it at that for now.

Safety Precautions: None really. Just be careful with the Ghosts...

The Ecto Containment Unit

Second ECU Picture Coming     Soon

__________________________
Ecto Containment Unit
The Ecto Containment Unit (ECU) is a custom built storage Facility and a High Voltage Laser Containment System where those Paranormal Pests are stored and never allowed out. Think of the ECU as a Ghost Trap, only it runs on infinite energy (or better yet, think of it as a Prison for Ghosts). The ECU can also hold an unlimited amount of Ghosts. As for how we get Ghosts into it, easy: pull open the door, insert the Trap, close the door and re-lock it, set your Entry Grid, Neutranize the field, flip the switch, and when the light is green, the Trap is clean! The Ghosts are incarcerated in the ECU and a Protection Grid in the ECU holds 'em in. The ECU takes up an entire Wall (literally!) and runs on a lot of Energy (it runs on 3 Megawatts on a very big and powerful Megavolt System). The ECU also utilizes a Security System that uses Hand Prints and Voice Messages and has a back-up System. It is also possible to enter the ECU should something somehow go wrong, but a special Protection Suit must be worn. Usually a GB in a Protection Suit will, shall we say, perform maintenence, inside the ECU, but this is extremely rare and isn't really necessary, because the ECU is maintained with proper care by professional, well-trained, well-experienced, and extremely intelligent Ghostbusters. Here's an interesting fact about the ECU: the Ghostbusters originally had an Emergency Shutdown Switch (ESS) and when Walter "Dickless" Peck of the Envoirmental Protection Agency (EPA) came to the Firehouse Headquarters, he forced the GBs to shut off the ECU's Protection Grid (actually the GBs didn't do it, a Con Edison worker who was with Peck did, but Peck forced him to do it). After the Protection Grid was shut down, all of the Ghosts inside it were free and wreaked havoc on the City! Not only that, but the explosion was huge and caused massive damage against the Firehouse. The ESS is no longer on the ECU, and it currently doesn't seem possible to set the Ghosts free again (unless something should go wrong while a GB is inside the Unit and/or if (God forbid) the Megavolt System runs out of Energy).

Safety Precautions: DON'T SHUT OFF THE PROTECTION GRID!!!
Doing so will cause an explosion 30 times more powerful than that of a Nuclear explosion!!

The Ecto-1
Ecto-1
The "Hearse" with a Curse. The Ecto-1 was the official Car of the Ghostbusters and few Cars have been cooler. It was the main choice of Transportation for the GBs. When the GBs first started out, they needed a big Car with a lot of room. Ray Stantz had purchased a 1959 Cadillac Ambulance for $4, 800, 00 and it needed some Suspension work, Shocks, Brake Pads, a Steering Box, Transmission, a Rear End, New Rings, Mufflers, and a little Wiring. The GBs got all of that together, and they touched the Vehicle up a little bit with a nice new paint job, and some Equipment attached on the Roof, and thus, Ecto-1 was born. Now, your probably wondering what all that stuff is on top. Well, mostly lights and sirens, but it's unknown what the rest it. I'd guess one of those things on top is an enhanced PKE Meter, but I have no idea what the rest is (except that small Ladder which is mounted onto the side, which is probably used for performing maintenence and repairing, but if you ask me, it's pointless. You have seperate and more durable and useful Ladders for that kind of job!). One of the coolest things about Ecto-1 is that somewhere underneath there are Rocket Boosters that can help make it soar faster and "Air Jump", and there is even a Raft in case you happen to get in a rather wet situation. Ecto-1 can hold up to four Passengers and has a large Storage Compartment in the back for the Ghostbusting Equipment. The License Plate reads "Ecto-1". Ecto-1 for it's time was the coolest Car around. That was until... Ecto-1A arrived!

Safety Precautions: Be careful with the gears and all, as it's unknown what they all do, and be careful while on the Ladder, because it's unknown what some of the stuff on top is and and what it does...

The Ecto-1A
Ecto-1A
The "Hearse" with a Curse is back, and is better than ever! When the Ghostbusters went back in business in 1989, they still had their Ectomobile. It was very old and gathered lots of dirt and dust. It was time for Ecto to grow up and get a makeover, and what a makeover it was! Ecto-1A is the same type of Vehicle as the Ecto-1 (1959 Cadillac Ambulance). It is the new choice of Transportation for the GBs. It looks a lot more high-tech than Ecto-1 and is a lot cooler and more useful. It's got a PKE Satellite (a very welcome addition), the awesome Ghostbusters II No Ghost logo, black and yellow striped lines across the Doors and above the Windows, a Computerized L.E.D. Neon Scrolling Screen used for advertising on it that says "We're Back", "Call Us", "For Hire..." and a lot more, and it also has a Nitro Canister on top of it (the Canister is that round thing on the right) for speed boosting, and I think that it has the Rocket Boosters and Raft underneath like Ecto-1 did. It also doesn't have that pointless Ladder that Ecto-1 did.  It can also hold eight Passengers instead of the somewhat limited four Passengers like Ecto-1 and it still has the Storage Compartment in the back for the Ghostbusting Equipment (and it's even bigger and has more room). Like Ecto-1, Ecto-1A also has a License Plate that reads "Ecto-1A". Ecto-1A is plain and simply the coolest Car on Earth, and there is no other Car, not even the DeLorean from Back To The Future, that comes even remotely close to matching Ecto-1A.

Safety Precautions: Same as Ecto-1. Be careful with the gears and all...

The Slime Blower
Ray & Winston Hose This Possessed Man With Positively-Charged Slime From Their Slime Blowers. The Man Will Later Wake Up Feeling Like a Million Bucks
Slime Blower
It's Slime Time! One of the rarest pieces of Equipment in the Ghostbusting Arsenal, but a cool and fairly useful Weapon nonetheless. The Slime Blower is sort of like a Flamethrower, only it throws Slime instead of Flames (and the Slime Blower is somewhat like a Super Soaker Water Gun, in that it throws a Liquid Element). How did such a cool and original Weapon come to be? Back in 1989, Dana Barrett reported a very strange and scary event; she was out for a walk and was strolling a Carrage with her Infant Son Oscar. Somehow, the Carrage drove by itself and stopped in the middle of 1st Avenue and barely missed crashing into a Bus. Dana reported this to Egon Spengler, who got Raymond Stantz to help. Peter Venkman unwittingly got involved with the investigation. The trio went to 1st Avenue and found out that whatever it was the took control of Oscar's Carrage was underneath the Street. The guys did some illegal Drilling in the middle of 1st Avenue, uncovered an old Air Shaft, and Ray was sent down via Harness to investigate. He found a huge River Of Psychomagnetheric Slime that was feeding off the negative Human Emotions of New York and Vigo The Carpathian, an ancient 17th Century Moldavian Tyrant, who was taking refuge in a Painting in the Manhattan Museum Of Art, was harboring the negative Energy and was strengthening himself with it. Luckily, Ray had grabbed a sample of the Slime and the guys tested it. They somehow turned the bad Energy good. Thus, the Mood Slime was born, and so was the Slime Blower. The Mood Slime functions as Ammuntion for the Slime Blower. The Slime Tanks are mounted onto an A.L.I.C.E. Pack Frame with bigger Straps and more padding and protection than the Proton Pack's A.L.I.C.E. Pack Frame (not shown). There are also two small but bright Lights attached on top of the two small green air tanks. How does the Slime Blower work? Very simple. See that big tank in the middle with the yellow and black safety hazard tape? That tank contains gallons and gallons of Mood Slime, which is powered by postive Human Emotions. The two smaller green Tanks on the sides are Air Tanks. Now, the actual Blower (the Gun) has a switch/lever thing that functions as a Trigger (it also functions a lot like a Water Valve). When it's pulled, it makes the very high-Pressured Air in the Air Tanks push the Mood Slime (in the large Tank) through the Hose and into the Gun, and out of the Gun the Slime blows (hence the name, Slime Blower). The Slime fires at a fast and furious rate. Now, while it isn't nearly as useful as some of the other Ghostbusting Equipment (and it definitely doesn't compare to the Proton Pack), it is still a pretty useful and decent Weapon. If your dealing with a possessed being, forget about getting an Exorcist to perform an Exorcism, this is just what the Doctor ordered. The positively charged Mood Slime can cure a possessed Being without doing any sort of harm and have them wake up feeling like a million bucks (in other words, they'll be back to normal). Plus, the Slime isn't at all harmful against the Envoirment and Beings, which is definitely a big plus side. The range of the Slime is somewhat limited however, as it can only hurl about 10 feet. Still, an all-around decent Weapon.

Safety Precautions: Ha! None really. Just make sure your in good shape and have plenty of strength, and be careful with whoever/whatever you Slimed and cured. They'll act abmormally "Groovy"...

The Tripod Trap
The Tripod Trap Emits a Laser Grid Which Causes These Objects To Fly And Also Temporarily Traps Some Invisible Ghosts
Tripod Trap
The Tripod Trap is a lot like the Ghost Trap. It is mounted onto a Tripod and it emits the same type of EMF as the Trap does. The EMF the Tripod Trap emits however is more precise. The Laser it emits makes certain types of objects float in the Air, and it doesn't exactly suck Ghosts like the Trap does. Instead, it just reflects and bounces off certain surfaces and creates a Grid-type Beam that Traps Ghosts in it for a temporary amount of time, long enough for a Ghostbuster to pull out the real Trap and Trap the Ghost. The Tripod Trap is a Weapon that is very little known, and is very rarely used, but it is still useful.

Safety Precautions: Don't stare directly at the Laser as it can blind you and be careful how you operate the Laser as well.

*Thanks to Matt Emery for the information on this Weapon!!*
