About Myself
Welcome to "about" section of this site. Here I will give you a little background about myself including education, training, and other aspects of my life. Since typically I will spend a paragraph introducing the section before hand, perhaps we should get down to business here...
I was born and raised in Rockville, Maryland where I spent my young life until the time I went to college in North Carolina. I attended middle school at Robert Frost Middle School (Grades 7&8) a public school in the heart of Rockville (about 30 minutes Southeast of Washington D.C). It was there that I began exploring my interests within entertainment, primarily theatre. My first show was a variety show in 7th Grade where I ran the lighting console (actually a 1974 Piano Board with 12 dimmers and 6 12-Cell strip lights, though I did not know this until 4 years later). Since that variety show and straight up through High School (Wootton High School graduate of 1999) I was continuously active within my school's drama department and other organizations. During high school, I was in charge of running and designing lights for one play and one musical each year, as well as supervise and maintain the equipment. I also worked continuously in the scene shop and ran the Sound console for a few shows. I was also a very active student of Music, at that time playing three instruments and learning a 4th, while playing within the Modern and Jazz Bands within school. Within my four years of high school, I graduated with a membership in the Modern Music Master's Honor society (here noted as Tri-M), the student vice president for the Wootton band and Orchestra Boosters society (WBOB), and a solid theatrical high school background.
After high school, I spent four years at Elon University, where I recently graduated, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Arts with a Design/Production emphasis and a minor in Business Administration. As a freshman, I entered Elon as a Business major not sure what I wanted to do. I instantly got involved within the theatre department, showing quick and solid interest by agreeing to design the fall play in Elon's Black Box Theatre (then a small 16' X 30' space). Within freshman year I changed my major 5 times (going from declaring a Business major, then changing to Engineering, then changing again to Psychology, then changing yet again to Music, then finally settling on Theatre Arts by Spring of 2000). As a sophomore and junior, I spent as much time and energy as I could working and learning all about the different aspects of Theatre Tech. I have taken different roles within shows and quickly found my niche within Lighting Design early on.
However, during sophomore year, I also found a love for Sound Design, primarily creating and editing background FX and music within plays. I also got on board with a musical or two, just to help understand the effects of mixing shows live (I have had experience in recording studios with mixing bands for CD's). I took this new and secondary love to a new height by working professionally my second summer at Lakes Region Summer Theatre (LRST). After a great success with my first summer there, I was asked to return for a second summer to my position as the Sound Designer and Engineer for another 5 musical performances plus function as the Master Electrician for the theatre. For the summer of 2003, I served at Seaside Music Theatre, being hired as the Assistant to the Master Electrician, and being promoted mid-season to the Master Electrician position.
In addition to my theatrical activity at Elon, I was able to achieve at many different kinds of leadership roles. These includied assisting in the presentation of new technology on Campus as well as assist in gaining funds to allow Elon to hire there own Costume Designer, a position that has needed to be filled for some time now. My work at Elon has also been produced within specific theatrical magazines as an ad for Elon's Department of Performing Arts.
In my free time I enjoy continuing the practice of
my muscial talents (specifically percussion and brass instruments), being an
avid reader, and continuing to grow in my talents of photography, computer and
web work, and relaxing (more of a hobby than a talent I believe, but I'm working
hard to perfect it none the less).
