What's it about?
Bruce Willis plays an aging, drunk cop who gets the assignment of taking a young criminal (Mos Def) to the courthouse which is, as you guessed, 16 blocks away. Little do they know, the people Mos Def is going to testify against are cops including Willis's partner (David Morse). So, naturally, the bad cops try to "eliminate" the witness before he can make it to court by the 10AM deadline.
Best Performance
Mos Def
Disappointing Performance
Bruce Willis--nothing unique at all

Bruce Willis fans and people wanting to watch a very simple action movie
My Thoughts
If you've read my other reviews, you know that I hate it when films take on too many themes. This is a simple action movie which is also trying to have a touching, emotional feel to it as well. The movie starts without any concern or care given to the characters and then at the end we are supposed to feel empathy for Bruce Willis for doing the right thing and for Mos Def who wants to open his own bakery in Seattle. It just didn't connect for me. Usually I can overlook silly plots and enjoy simple action movies but the plot holes and implausibilities just frustrated me by the lack of common sense (Why not just jump into a taxi? Why carry around the bad guys' cell phone?). If you feel you're about 5 steps ahead of Bruce, you're not alone. His character was so inconsistent. At the beginning he was so stupid but by the middle he was smart enough to survive a hostage situation. I don't want to make this sound like a terrible movie because it wasn't, but there's nothing original about 16 Blocks at all. Mos Def does a great job in his role and is the bright spot of the movie. Can't wait for that Die Hard sequel Bruce!
