Chapter History

In the Fall semester of 1996 a group of women were in search of an organization that would be strengthened with their abilities and membership. They felt a need to unite and organize themselves into a group that would represent the essence of Latina womanhood and sisterhood as well as incorporate a wealth of other cultures. They found all of these qualities in Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc.

In order to become a petitioning colony of Sigma Lambda Gamma, these women formed an organization that they called Latin Ladies in Power. During that year the women participated in volunteer projects fulfilling and incorporating Sigma Lambda Gamma's five principles.

In the Fall of 1997 their hard work was recognized and these women became the Pace University Colony. Throughout the following year the women held several informational events in hopes of attracting new members. They were successful and by the end of Fall 1997 several women had joined their organization.

On September 19, 1998, the national board of Sigma Lambda Gamma unanimously voted to grant Pace University Colony into the Mu Alpha Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc.
