| Greater Austin Alumnae Association Est. January 6, 2007 |
| OUR HISTORY The idea of the Greater Austin Alumnae Association started with a group of sisters during the fall 2005 and although the idea was received with much enthusiasm, GAAA did not begin to formally gather all needed requirements to become a nationally recognized alumnae association of Sigma Lambda Gamma until May 2006. After much hard work gathering all necessary paperwork from each initiated sister throughout the summer of 2006, GAAA held its first meeting on August 20, 2006 and since then has continued to meet monthly in order to achieve all necessary requirements needed to receive alumnae association status and to begin the planning of future GAAA programming. Since the beginning of August, sisters of GAAA have participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and attended many of the programming events of the undergraduate chapters in the greater Austin area. On November 15, 2006, GAAA officially petitioned the National Board of Sigma Lambda Gamma for alumnae association status. Although GAAA was petitioning with only 9 initiated members rather than the required 10 members, the founding sisters of GAAA believed that a healthy and productive alumnae association could still be established with the 9 passionate women. On January 6, 2007, GAAA was granted association status from the National Board of Directors and is an officially recognized entity of Sigma Lambda Gamma. The founding sisters of GAAA are: Alicia Guevara, Jessica Gutierrez, Jennifer Limas, Vimbai Madzura, Cynthia Ortega, Gloria Ortega, Maricarmen Salas, Vanessa Sweet and Becky Trevino. |
