THE PARENTS
DAM:  SHD's  CHERRY WHEAT
SIRE:  TH's  KIOWA POKO OF STAFFORD
We call this litter the "Miracle Babies"  When the 10 kits were born, Cherry had only 4 working nipples.  We thought  for sure we would lose half the litter with all ten struggling for milk.  At three days, one of the little boys contracted an eye infection and lost some of his body weight.  He was so little but a surviver none the less.   At one week of age we started hand feeding the little ones around the clock  to keep them going.  As luck would have it they finally got 2 more of Cherry's nips working (persistent little guys).  At two weeks, Cherry developed mastitis and we almost lost her.  Her milk dried up and we became the mother, hand feeding  with replacement milk and then Chicken Gravy.  Two more boys developed eye infections.  The kits fell further and further behind in their weight gain but at least were gaining weight.

Now at 8 weeks, they are on softened kibble, along with the regular hard kibble and Chicken gravy (more as a treat).   They are quickly gaining weight and have turned out to be a very healthy and active litter.   They are really on the run now, exploring this big new world.  The kits appear to be rather dark in these pictures but are actually lighter and show point coloring.  As they grow, they will lighten up, acquiring a very white undercoat and their points will darken up to almost coal black.  Since we have handled them a lot they have developed a very good personality.  They are your normal litter of energy and fun.

This was a joint venture between Scarlett's Happy Dookers and Savannah Lakes Ferretry.
