East William St. in downtown Ann Arbor. My home of sixteen years. (1990-2001, 2003-2008).

Why a Website?—

Business cards, resumes, networking sites like Facebook and Myspace—all of these are great tools for sharing professional and personal information with others. But they have their disadvantages too. With this website I wanted to create a place that offers most of the benefits of other networking aids, while bypassing their numerous drawbacks.

Here you will find information on the places I’ve lived (some of them you may be headed to or away from yourself), information on the universities I’ve attended, recommended readings, interesting news stories and links, and of course, a bit about myself! Lastly, I hope this website might inspire others to create their own. Who knows, in the future everyone might have a “traditional” website of their own. If this happens, business cards and paper resumes could become things of the past. –AKP

About This Site

A Brief History

After learning that the University of Michigan does not give its alumni the option to use Sitemaker—a webtool that allows people to create professional looking webpages through a simple interface–I immediately chose to create my own. Although it wasn’t easy, I can’t imagine I could have created anything much better with the Sitemaker prgram than I’ve done here using Microsoft Publisher.

I began with a simple template. Yet besides the color scheme, the basic sidebar, header, and the picture in the corner, nothing from the original template remains. Microsoft Publisher has been a terrific program for the designing and formatting of this site. And despite it’s initial complexity, it is pretty user friendly.

The photographs and university logos were downloaded from the internet. I intend to take photos this year and create a web gallery of Chicago using my own work. The city is beautiful and Hyde Park is highly photogenic. However, the photos posted to the site as of May 20th,

2008 are all borrowed.

The university logos are borrowed from both the University of Michigan and the University of Chicago.

They are being used in accordance with the logo and emblem policies of both schools.

If you like the way this website works, I encourage you to design and create one of your own. For me, I think this website will become a valuable tool as I will be able to direct potential employers and new colleagues to this site so that they may learn more about me and my credentials.

Thank you for visiting my site!
