The young Tigers of Balestier Central have shown that they have truly matured as a team the past
year, as they once again came from a goal down to eventually salvage a draw with Sembawang
Rangers. This was a game of 2 halves, as both teams took turns to dominate the game: Sembawang
in the first, and Balestier in the Second. Balestier's defence looked really shaky early in the game, and was no match for Sembawang抯 Thaitrio of Bamrung Boomprom, Tawatchai Ongtrakul
and Tawan Sripan, who were looking to do their part for their team before leaving for international duty. In the 3rd minute, a through ball fell to an unmarked Tawatchai, whose weak shot was easily saved by goalkeeper Hairil Amin.
The Tigers were not so lucky 2 minutes later, when an almost identical move saw Ismail Fitrey
at the end of the maneuver, and finding the back of the net with ease. The Tigers' reputable
strong defence was in shambles. Fans in the stadium were wondering if a mauling was on the
cards.
However, that was not to be as Balestier stepped up the pressure after conceding the early goal. In the 9th minute Thai Striker Daorueang Krongpol weaves past the defence on the left to the edge of the box. He quickly side steps his
marker and lets fly with a shot, but it was straight at the keeper.
With both teams playing a very tight defensive system, not many goalmouth opportunities were made, but players were subjected to long range shots from outside the box. Sembawang were the brighter side in the first half, with the Thai trio combining well to show off some slick passing and nice moves, but sad to say, no more goals were scored till halftime.
At the break, Balestier made a substitution to bring on young striker Faizal Sazali. This proved to be an attacking option as Balestier attacked the Sembawang goal from the restart. Sembawang, ironically, chose to defend deeper in
the second half, trying to protect its slender 1 goal lead, instead of looking for more goals to secure a win. This proved to be costly as there was tremendous pressure on Sembawang caused by the non-stop attacks from Balestier.
In the 59th minute, a quick free kick released Krongpol into the box, but Yazid Yasin was quick off the line to intercept the ball. 3 minutes later, another cross to Krongpol from the right sees him do a quick turn round his marker, but
he fires agonizingly wide. And in the 64th minute, Krongpol, this time playing the provider, sets up a quick one-two with Josip Kozic, only for Josip to blast the ball over the bar.
In an intense last 12 minutes, Balestier抯 persistence finally paid off when skipper Darren Stewart, doubling up as a striker, brings down a cross on the left by Ali Imran, wrong-foots his marker, and fires into the top corner of the
net, beyond Yazid's reach.
Things started to get heated up after the equalizing goal, as both sides searched frantically for the elusive winning goal. A Josip free kick at the edge of the box was tipped over by Yazid, and at the other end, Imran Sahib抯 one on one with the keeper sees him fluffing his shot over the bar.
In the end, both teams shared the points, and Sembawang would be very disappointed not to have secured the 3 points despite looking brighter in the game. All in all, it was the Tigers' bravery and determination that saved them from yet
another defeat. Meanwhile, Sembawang would be wondering how it would have to cope with the loss of its Thai imports in the next few weeks.

Gombak United had a great night out at the Hougang stadium when they scored a convincing
3-0 victory over Marine Castle United. A hat-trick by the 18 year-old Prime league
player, Diallo Abdoulatye give the Bulls their 3rd win in 8 games and move them to 8th place of
the S-league table.
The first half was much a slow affair with both sides having few scoring opportunity. But the
goal in the last minute of the first half escalated the game into a great second half. A
hard challenge by striker Azhar Jamil on the Marine Castle's defender, Michael Lomax
resulting in a loose ball towards the path of Abdoulaye. The midfielder wasted no time and
fired a rocket like shot into the roof of the net from outside the penalty area, giving Amos
Boon no chance.
In the 51st minute, the Guinea player scored his second goal and it must be contested as the goal
of the season; A cross from the right to ex-Marine Castle and Woodlands player, Roy Yeo,
whom head to find Diallo Abdoulaye lurking in the penalty area. With a defender on him and
back facing the Marine Caslte goal, he does his 'bicycle' magic professionally. His execution of
the bicycle kick was a true Brazilian carbon copy and once again Amos Boom was well beaten.
It was Christmas Day for Diallo Abdoulaye in the 78th minute when Amos Boon mis-kicked an easy
clearance and all he had to do was to lob the ball into a open net to complete his first
hat-trick in the S-league.
The Bulls had also their reserve keeper, Effendy Subtu to thank for saving 2 certain goals in the
63rd and 66th minute. The first from substitute Barrie Keeling off a corner and the other from
Thomas English when he bravely confronted the striker in a one-to-one situation.
All the Gombak fans were cheering when the Man-of -the-Match Diallo Abdoulaye receive the
match ball from the referee, Subash Lazar. The supporters must be very delighted with the
Bulls' performance and they should hope that their team always wears the lucky white outfit.
With 8 games played, and only one point to show, the Marine Caslte United must be wondering when
will they get their first win.

Having collected only one point out of their last 4 league matches, Woodlands Wellington faced a difficult task in hosting league leader, Geylang United at the Woodlands Stadium. Although the Rams had not won at home this
season, the northern club was not aiming to break that record prior to the match, certainly a draw against a club who had only lost 2 out of 21 points from their last 7 outings, would bring enough smiles to the Rams.
As expected, Geylang started the match much authority. They would have well taken the lead on several occasions if not for the alert Woodlands custodian, Faizal Ali. Faizal's denial of Geylang's goal scoring opportunities was
enough inspired his forwards. In one of their rare adventures up front, Woodlands earned a freekick outside the penalty box in the 20th minute. Skipper Surachai Jirasirichote unleashed a thunderous shot and hit straight at the Lionel
Lewis' crossbar. Esad Sejdic was the first to react to the rebounce as he tucked the ball into the net to give the host a surprise lead.
The men in green and white came back strongly. Their equalizer came in at the 31st minute through a penalty kick, after Noor Ali was brought down by a Woodlands defender in the penalty box. Aleksandar Duric made no mistake
from the spotkick to draw level. It was Geylang all the way after that. Brian Bothwell connected a delightful pass by Duric with a diving header one minute before the half time whistle to give the visitors the lead.
The floodgates opened up when the match resumed after the break. Perhaps the inclusion of Geylang substitute striker Nebojsa Vukosavljevic did help to make that happen. Although Nebojsa did not claim any of the 4 Geylang goals in the
second half, the 23 years old made his presence felt as he created open spaces for fellow striker, Duric, to claim 2 more goals in the game and the 61st and 72nd minutes.
Seeing Duric collecting his hat-trick, Bothwell added one more goal for a double in the 68th minute. By then, the entire Woodlands defence was already in sixes and sevens, national midfielder Hasrin Jailani, who came on as a substitute made full use of such situation as he collected his S.League goal in the 87 minute.
The luckless Woodlands Rams had started their game without chief striker Josko Parac. Although 23 years old did make an entry to the game on the hour, he could not do much except seeing his team being torn apart the fierce Eagles.
The 6-1 thrashing sent Woodlands Wellington further down to the wrong side of the league table. On the other hand, the big victory allows Geylang to remain on top of the league table and the Eastern club had recorded a more superior
goal difference than the SAFFC after this Woodlands' encounter.

A hat-trick by star striker Marcelo Da Silva increased Rovers' bid after a convincing 3-1 victory over the Warriors to stay with the front runners of the NTUC Income Sleague.
Marcelo Da Silva's lethal finishing destroyed the mighty warriors, who have now tasted defeat two times in seven games.
Both National Team players, striker Noh Alam Shah and captain Nazri Nasir were sent off for dissent.
Referee R Vijay showed no hesitation to send them off for an early shower when both players disputed strongly against his decisions. Noh Alam Shah's dismissal so early in the game was clearly set to have an influence, and Tampines began their recovery in the 35th minute.
The 'blond-haired' Tampines hot-shot opened his account with a clever placing header past
helpless goalkeeper Shahri Rahim in the 36th minute.
Midfielder Azlan Alipah who has maintained his current top form provided the famed David
Beckham抯 cross for Marcelo Da Silva to pick a spot to score.
Then in the second half the dangerous Marcelo Da Silva made it 2-0 with another well-placed
header after out jumped keeper Shahri Rahim in an aerial challenge from a floating pass by
fellow striker Adriano Reis.
Marcelo Da Silva completed his treble in the dying minute of the game after a determined
charge through the middle by Brazilian midfielder Joselito Da Silva.
His pass found Marcelo Da Silva completely unmarked, leaving the striker to dribble his way to face keeper Shahri Rahim in a one versus one situation before confidently placing the ball into the back of the SAFFC net.
The Warriors, who had dominated much of the game despite the sending offs, reduced the deficit in
the 80th minute when substitute Goran Galov found the target with a beautiful direct free kick over keeper Noorisham Zainon.
Noorisham Zainion had denied the Warriors with a string of fine first-half saves, stretching to fingertip away two goalbound efforts from top scorer Mirko Grabovac.

Home Utd 3-2 Tanjong Pagar Utd
by Ko Po Hui
This 3-2 scoreline was probably the last thing that the Jaguars would want to have after that impressive thumping of Gombak Utd last week, for the reason that Tanjong Pagar’s coach, Tohari Paijan’s men will find it even harder to shed
off their "bridesmaids" tag after tonight encounter with Home Utd.
Obviously the omission of Thai international, Sutee Suksomkit, who is being recalled recently by Thailand for their World Cup qualifiers preparation had definitely had some impact on the Jaguars as their sole striker upfront, Davor
Dzelaija faced an uphill task in unsettling the colossal Protectors backline, which was well guarded by the ever reliable, S Subramani, who ironically was formerly on the Jaguar’s payroll prior his transfer to Home Utd.
The game kicked off with the display of some wayward passes shown by the 2 sides, as both
parties were trying their best to take the control of the game. Apparently it was the host
that seems to gain the upper hand in this showdown.
Brazilian import, Peres Oliveira continued his fine showing in the S-League with his commanding presence in the midfield, thanks to his distribution and running, his fellow countryman upfront, Egmar Goncalves and the nipp Indra
Sahdan were ensured an uninterrupted supply of ammo that will essential in bombardment of the
Tanjong Pagar’s goal, which Croatian custodian Dragan Talajic had a hard time in fending off
the salvos fired by the Protectors’ feared strikeforce.
Part of the reason, why the Jaguars’s last line were constantly under threat was because the absence of skipper, Lim Tong Hai, who understood to be half-fit for this game, which coach Tohari decided to field him only in the second half.
What a difference Tong Hai had made when he replace Johaness Idris in the 46th minute, because the Jaguars had began to regain it’s composure at the back, but sadly that was only after Home Utd had taken the lead the 41st
minute through, Egmar Goncalves.
Slack defending was the main culprit that resulted this goal, with the Brazilian had the luxury of space and time provided by the Jaguars defence to allow him to open the floodgate, much to the disgust of Talajic who was expected his team mates to put up a resistance, which it didn’t happened at all, when Egmar, without any
difficulty, slotted home a tame grounder to put the ball in the goal!!
With this slender lead, Home Utd began on the much defensive note in the 2nd 45 minutes, whereas allowed Tanjong Pagar to launch its offences against them.
63rd minute, however saw the reverse to the original tactics, after Home’s captain, S Subramani scored an own goal!! who was the most unfortunate guy to be at that spot to tap in Steven Tan’s cross, that ‘keeper Adi Salleh
failed to punch it to safety. [such an embarrassment, that the stadium announcer didn’t even inform the fans that who scored the goal!]
It was only that, the game had lived up to its expectation, the visitor almost taken in the 78th minute. With Steven Tan, this time round stole the ball from towering R Sasikumar just after the penalty area, but Adi Salleh was well
positioned to block the shot, after which, Davor Dzelaija could only watch in agony that his
follow-up was ballooned over the bar.
How dearly it proved to be, as with that blunder, Home Utd punished the Jaguars with 2 more goals in the 85th minute and the 88th minute, only in the 90th minute, Davor Dzelaija’s header from the corner had made the scoreline, a much respectable one for the visiting team.
