He was murdered by robbers who were after the railroad payroll he was carrying. His oldest daughter, Sarah Evalina (My GM) was with him at the time and witnessed the robbery and murder. She was 9 years old.

FAMILY STORY ABOUT DEATH OF JOHN N. STRAIT.
On 14 Mar. 1867 John N. Strait and his family were living in Fulton, Tn.
John worked as a payroll agent for a railroad under construction in the area.
John was on the way to pay the railroad workers and had his daughter Sarah Evalina who was 9 years old, with him. Robbers set upon them, killing John N. Sally hid but witnessed the robbery and killing. She was not harmed.
I have attempted to find more information on this but nothing has developed.

**William Curney's father, Furney Webster d. 4 Dec.1859. In the 1860 Census for Sumter Co. Ala. William Curney and his brother, Alexander, were living with their uncle William Ray Richardson. Brother Andrew Ramsay and sister, Margaret were living with their uncle Applewhite b.1829.
**Brother Bryant b. 1846 was killed in the Civil War on 26 Nov. 1863 in the battle of Missionary Ridge near Chattanooga and was buried there. Alvin had died before this time. Sister Uney Ray had died at the age of 1 year in 1852.
**Half brother, John R. son of Margaret Bennett and Furney Webster was living with his mother and both were living with the Bennett Family.

I have been told that Mary M. and Harvey L. were children of Mary Clarene Boyd Straits brother. I don't know whether this applies to Susan Poole also. Two of these children died shortly after arriving in Texas at Keechi Station, Leon County, from typhoid fever. There is a grave in Dew Cemetery with contains one or both of these children.

Your petioner, SALLIE E. RICHARDSON, wife of WILLIAM C. RICHARDSON, deceased, respectfully shows to the court that her husband, the said WILLIAM C. RICHARDSON, died on the 8th day of July, 1905, at Salona in Montague County, Texas.
That at the time of the death of the said WILLIAM C. RICHARDSON there had been born to your petioner and the said WILLIAM C. RICHARDSON the following named children, to wit:
ALMA RICHARDSON, female unmarried aged, 29 who now resides with petioner at their home near Salona, Texas. LANIE HARKREADER, female married, aged 27, and who now resides at Clarksville, Ark. LILLIE CLARK, married female, aged 23, and now resides at Salona in said Montague, County, Texas, ANNIE LANE, female, married aged 21, who now resides at Dew, Texas. SALLIE RICHARDSON, aged 19, female; HARVEY A. RICHARDSON, male age 17; WILLIAM A. RICHARDSON, male, aged 15; JEWEL RICHARDSON, female, age 13; ARTHUR S. RICHARDSON, male, aged 11; ELLA F.
