He migrated from Pa. to Tipton, Ind., with the family. Married Frances Mercella Kessler Aug. 10, 1875, at West Milton, O. He studied for the ministry at DePauw, and served as local minister of the M.E. Church for some time. Owing to impaired eyesight and hearing, he was forced to give it up, but remained an ardent church worker. Four of his children were born during his residence in West Milton. He was Assistant Judge of the Indianapolis (Ind.) Juvenile Court. He died Jan. 19, 1925, and his wife on March 26, 1927, at Indianapolis, where they were buried. In 1869 he moved from Athens Co., Ohio, to Fairbury, Nebr. Here he homesteaded 160 acres of land and proved up on 160 acres of school land five miles north of Fairbury, on which he built a "Dug-out" where he lived for some time, and where two of his sons were born. A third son was born in a building that later became a granary. In 1875 he built a seven room house. He was a man of strong Christian character, and sometimes engaged in the ministry. Howard Feb. 11, 1869. He moved with his parents to Trumble Co. Oh. In 1860, he engaged in the dairy business, later moved to Athens Co., Ohio. In 1864, he enlisted in the U.S. Service and served to the end of the war. In Oct. 1870 he moved to Nebraska and took up a homestead in Filmore Co., which was then the frontier, over-run with prairie dogs, wolves, antelope and buffalo, to say nothing of the Indians. There were no railroads, schools or churches. In 1878, he moved to Jefferson Co. and engaged in stock raising, farming, feeding and shipping stock. He had 1080 acres of fine land and enjoyed all the comforts of "home on the range." Daniel died in 1914 and his wife the following year. Children James Andrew (13 Jan 1870, Athens Co., OH) When only a few months old he went with his parents to Filmore Co., Nebr. where he grew up on a homestead, housed by a sod house, and surrounded by buffalo, prairie dogs and Indians. Here he spent the first twenty-five years of his life. His life has been varied, he taught school 14 years, farmed, conducted a real estate and insurance agency, which he still owns. In 1917 he was elected to represent his District in the State Legislature, was re-elected in 1919 and 1921, was elected and served as State Senator in 1931, and served on several important committees. He is a Republican in politics, a Methodist in religion. His home is in Fairbury, Nebr. On June 2, 1897 he married Olive Sheperd at Fairbury. Was director of School Board for 25 years. He is living just across the road from the house in which he was born.
