William F. Crafton (Crofton)
First Generation 1. William F. Crafton (Crofton) was born 1830 in Clay Co, IN. He died 1879. William F Crafton (b: 1830 Clay Co, IN, d: 1885, IN) m: Sarah Helms and had children: Susannah (Fannie), Arvilla, Harrison P and Emily Marsha. On the 1860 census, he was in Owen Co, IN living next door to Harrison P Crafton (b: ca 1833), who had a son named William F. I assume they were brothers. Does anyone know where William was on the 1850 census and who his parents were? I have been told his parents were Mary McIntire and William Crafton (b: 1796 KY) and grandparents were Patsy Stembridge and Joseph Crafton (m: 1785 Lunenberg Co, VA). I would appreciate any information on these folks. by Nancy Leake Flack [email protected] May be grandson to Joseph Tipton Crafton 26726 who married martha patsey stembridge <><><><><> CRAFTON, WILLIAM F (1860 U.S. Census) INDIANA , MORGAN, WASHINGTON TWP Age: 30, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: IN Series: M653 Roll: 284 Page: 876 (have image) CRAFTON, WILLIAM (1870 U.S. Census) INDIANA , CASS, LOGANSPORT Age: 40, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: IN Series: M593 Roll: 302 Page: 167(have image) <><><><><> Database: Civil War Pension Index William F. Of his first 3 children, only Isaac Walter survived. Some time before 1870 Joseph left Martha, but it is unknown where he went. She and Walter appear on the 1870 census of Darke Co, OH, living alone. I have been unable to locate records on Joseph again until 1878 when he bought 10 acres of farmland in Noble Twp, Cass Co, IN. He and his second wife, Mary, and their children appear on the 1880 census for Noble Twp, Cass Co, IN. His wife Mary's death in 1886 is filed as Mary Bradrick and they were still living in Noble Twp at that time. He almost immediately re-married to Emily Crafton Nutt, who was the widow of his nephew, Joseph Willis Nutt. According to his daughter, Norma, in November 1887 he and his family (baby Norma, the 4 children of his 2nd wife, Mary and Emily's daughter Mabel) moved to California, presumably to Santa Clara Co, CA. However, there is no trace of the family in CA until 1891, when Lizzie (Mary Elizabeth) was given a bible by the Methodist Church in San Jose, so they were probably in San Jose by that time. However, in 1892 Joseph was given a bibl?e by the California Bible Society in San Francisco. He wrote in the bible "Joseph Bradrick' s book, 1892." I have been unable to find public records of them in California until 1899 when they appear in a city directory for Santa Clara Co. Joseph was living separately from Emily and work ing as a carpenter. His date of death is based on that being the only death certificate for anyone with a similar name dying around that time in Santa Clara Co, CA. Dates of birth on the children (as well as William Isaiah's date of death) are from Joseph Bradrick's bible, which he wrote also received from the Methodist church in San Jose some time after 1892. Emily had 3 children from her 1st marriage, but only one of them, Mabel Claire Nutt, came to CA with them; her 1st child had died; it is unknown what happened to the 2nd child; Mabel was her 3rd. In the city directory for Santa Clara Co, CA, Mabel appears as Mabel Bradrick. Joseph and Emily had the following children: + 10 F v. Norma Arvilla Bradrick (Broderick) was born Aug 27 1887 and died Aug 16 1950. |
