Personality: Geltro is a mean little so-and-so. He'd rather steal something than get it as a gift, because it proves he's more clever than the owner. If he buys something, it's because he doesn't think he could get away with stealing it. He might try stealing his money back later, though. Geltro would also consider the phrase "perfectly safe" or "unstealable" to be a personal challenge. While very rude, he's not very talkative, relying on actiion and posture to offend people. This brevity, as well as the dirt, are tools of his trade. Loud, bright and clean things don't hide in shadows well. So distrustful is he, and so despising his fellow man, that he would automatically assume anyone trying to be nice to him had a hidden agenda. He'd probably get along fine with Zelgadis. He'd drive Amelia, Phyria or Sylphiel to distraction. If brought into a high-society situation, he would refuse to accept propriety, being ESPECIALLY obnoxious in order to show his complete disdain for the snobby way of life.

Geltro is an orphan. Born on the streets of Atlas City, his mother died when he was very young. He was raised by a pack of street kids, where he learned to beg and eventually to pick pockets. One day, a parade of some sort was passing down the street. A little starved for entertainment, Geltro went to watch. Some noble families were riding slowly through the street, looking down their noses at the rabble that scraped out an existence in this part of town. Sana, a 6-year old girl Geltro knew, approached the procession with her begging bowl, eyes lowered respectfully. Begging from rich visitors was a fairly common thing, so Geltro didn't think much of it. Then one of the procession, a girl who couldn't have been much older than Sana, screeched "Daddy she TOUCHED me!". A lie, but it meant all Sana got was a beating. Geltro was sick with anger, and quietly followed the noble girl.

For two days, Geltro stalked the wicked girl, trying to find SOME way to get revenge for Sana. Eventually, an oppertunity presented itself. The rich girl asked her mother if she could borrow some jewelry to play dress-up. Reluctantly, the mother agreed, but not before giving the spoiled girl a stern lecture on consequences. Hidden, Geltro smiled. As the girl played in the yard of the place her family was staying, Geltro slipped silently over the wall and approached her, waiting for the precise time to strike. Finally, the girl peeked over the lip of the well, trying to see her reflection, or some such foolishness. Making no more noise than the breeze, Geltro padded up behind her, unhooked the clasp of her necklace, and was hidden again before the necklace hit the water. That night the rich girl got the beating of her life, and Geltro felt warm inside.

Having found his place in the world, Geltro trained himself hard, and eventually came to the attention of some bandits who were recruiting in the slums. However, Geltro found the bandit life less appealing than he'd thought. Because he was so young, the bandits treated him almost like a slave. On top of that, the bandits were crude by thief standards. Sit by the road and wait until somebody who looks weaker than you comes along, thump him and take his stuff. Thuggery, not thievery was the way of the bandit, and the weak tended not to be nobles, to boot. So, when the inevitable happened, and heros showed up to put an end to these bandits they'd heard about, Geltro hid in the riverbank mud, and snuck away in the confusion. From that day on he decided he'd never be anything but a "real thief", living by stealth and wits.
