Chapter 2: The Crest

"Well, Xelloss-san, do you know anything about this?" asked Amelia.
"..."
"WHY CAN'T FILIA TALK!?" 'asked' Lina.
Xelloss took a book out of nowhere and started reading it.
"Around 600 years ago, a man named Ruuan placed his most precious things in a cliff named 'Pit of Nowhere'. To protect his treasure, he magically sealed this place to let no one have it. The seal was so strong that you MUST use it properly, or there would be some consequence. The seal would 'attack' the nearest magical source, if the crest was not properly used. People tried for years to open it, but they became, blind, deaf, unable to use magic at all and many others..."
"So, then Filia-san became dumb because I pushed the crest, and I didn't made the right combination or something. Is that right?" Amelia asked.
"I guess you�re right," said Xelloss. "Filia asks: But, if Amelia was the nearest one to the crest, why didn�t it 'attack' her?" said Xelloss, looking at Filia with his eyes closed.
"That's a good question," said Zel.
"Well, I can say why. Amelia is in her.. well ... it...," began Lina, unable to finish her sentence as Amelia glared at her.
" ... We all understand Lina...," said Zel.
"Hun, why don't we head back to find a way to cure Filia?" asked Gourry.
"Gourry, I think that's a good idea...," said Lina, looking at Gourry.
They all headed back to the inn with an extra guest: Xelloss. In Lina and Amelia's room, they were all trying different spells, cures and incantations, but all without any luck. Filia was dumb, and still dumb. Then, around midnight, they all tired of those useless spells, and decided to go to sleep. (wow, the originality here) BUT! (there is always a but, ne?) Filia couldn't talk, and the only one that she could speak with is...
"XELLOSS! GET OUT OF MY ROOM!" Filia cried in Xelloss' mind.
"What? you prefer to speak to NO ONE for the rest of your life?"
"Go away!"
" ... No, I think I'm just going to stay to annoy you."
An Evil smile appeared on Xelloss' face. Lina was going to say good night to everyone when she saw Xelloss in Filia's room by the door.
"Xelloss, you are going to stay in Filia's room?"
"Excellent time to annoy you," said Xelloss in Filia's mind. "Yes, she wants someone to talk with. She won�t admit it, but she would like me to stay!"
Lina and Filia's jaws dropped.
"You... you... BASTARD!!!" Filia screamed in Xelloss� head loud enough to make his brain explode.
Filia took her mace and tried to hit Xelloss, but missed. Then, tried again, missed again, retried... Lina was gone a long time ago, and the two didn't even notice it, too preoccupied trying to dodge/attack. But, after a while (a BIG while), the two couldn't fight anymore, even call each other names.
"I... *pant* can't take it... any *pant* more...," said Filia, sitting, then laying down on the floor.
"Me either... *pant* " said Xell, before laying down on the floor next to Filia.
"I didn't *pant* ask you...," said Filia, turning her back to him, "Why did you stay here?"
" I like to *pant* annoy you," said Xell, turning his back to Filia's back.
"I *pant* hate you."
"I'm sure *pant* you don't."
"Why wouldn't I?" asked Filia, sitting up and looking at Xell.
" I don't know...," said Xelloss, sitting up as well and looking at her.
"Stupid Namagomi mazoku...," said Filia, turning her head.
"Filia... what is that on your neck?" asked Xelloss, approaching her.
"STAY AWAY FROM ME!" cried Filia.
"JUST LOOK BY YOUR SELF!" said Xelloss holding a mirror in front of Filia, revealing a sign on the left side of her neck.
"So, she found it... I wonder what they will do now that he has found it... This should be interesting."
Mint teleported herself in front of the inn. Then, she jumped in the tree and sat, looking at the scene through the window. A smile was on the corner of her mouth, like she was enjoying this...
"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?" said Filia, always in her and Xell's mind, looking at the crest that marked her.
"It seems like the problem of you being dumb comes from there."
"But how come we didn't see it sooner?"
"I don't know. It's the first time I�ve seen that magic."
" Hum... Xelloss, why do you care that much? Not like I don't want to 'talk' to you because I have nothing to do, but..."
"It's the first time I�ve seen that magic, and I want to 'study' it..."
Xelloss got closer to Filia, then went to touch it. A bright light shone from it, so bright that it could have lit up all the village. Then, the light stopped. Filia opened her eyes and found herself with a �I�m dead but not dead� Xelloss in her lap. Filia poked him to see if he was still alive. Xelloss pulled himself together, then opened his eyes, and put his hands on his forehead, eyes wide open.
"Xelloss, are you all right?" Filia finally said, looking at him.
"I... I can't feel it, I can't see it!"
"What?"
"All my powers are gone!"
"WHAT!?"
Xelloss couldn't do anything except stare at Filia. Eyes open, mouth mid-opened, Xelloss was terrified.
"Stop joking, Xelloss, you are scaring me..."
"I would like to believe this is a joke, Filia! But, this isn't it!"
"Xell... you... you have a symbol on your neck..."
"WHAT?!" Xell took the mirror the looked at the red shining different symbol on the other side of the one on Filia's neck.
"Xelloss... "
" I can't even talk to you or read your mind if YOU don't speak to me..."
" you.. you... read... you ... read... YOU READ MY MIND?!"
" Yes, to know what you are thinking when I spy on you... oups!"
"XEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!"
"It seems that I can't lie either... hehe."
Filia took her mace, then prepared to swing it right in the middle of Xell's face.
"You also have nice and sexy legs... haaaaaa!! Why can't I keep my mouth shut!?"
A loud BONK could be heard with a pancake Xelloss on the wall. Falling down. Filia pouted, then she turned her head to see that Xelloss was still on the floor, with something called blood around him. After Filia realized that he wasn't lying after all, she ran to him.
"Xelloss, you all right?"
"That hurts...," Xell tried to say, unable to lift his head up.
" Namagomi... don't move..."
"Thanks, Filia, you are so kind..."
Filia placed his head on her knee and started healing him, and that did work due to the mazoku now more human than anything else...
Xelloss fell asleep in that position. So did Filia.
"This is really interesting...," said Mint as she jumped in the room and placed the two in the bed.
"I can't wait till morning..."

Then, morning came and someone named Xelloss woke up to the scent of vanilla, aka Filia, right next to him. Let's add, in a deep embrace. Then, Xell tried to move a little, but that movement woke Filia.
"WHAT?!" screamed Filia loud enough to break every window of the inn, if she hadn�t been dumb.
"I don't know, I just woke up... woke up.. That's strange to say, since I never sleep..."
"Is that so..."
"But the funniest, is that I've dreamed!"
"You look pleased... _ First, you�re telling what you are really thinking, after you are nice, now you are dreaming, what next?..." She looked at Xelloss. " ... This is going to be a weird long day...," finished Filia in a sarcastic tone, getting out of bed.
"But, the best is that I've dreamed of you.
"
"WHAT!?"
"I think I love you, Filia."
