Angel, a Vampire with a soul, who falls in love with the Slayer. Angel is possibly the strongest, most feared Vampire in the World. He "...Offered a Gruesome death to everyone he met, and did it with a song in his Heart..." until he killed a Gypsy girl and as revenge, the Gypsy's cursed him with a soul, the point of which was to make him suffer for all the people, his family, friends and so on the he killed. "It was the perfect punishment, you've no idea what it's like to have done the sort of things i've done, and cared". If Angel has a moment of pure happiness, as happens when he sleeps with Buffy, he will lose his soul as part of the Curse. At the end of Season 2, Willow finds and envokes the Curse again, just as Buffy sends Angel into Hell because Angelus opened the portal and it was the only way to save the world. He comes out though.

In many of Giles books he is described as "the one with the Angelic face", and has a Tatoo of an Angel above his Right Shoulder.

To try to make up for the Evil he did as Angelus, Angel started slaying Vampires and Demons with Buffy, until Graduation day, when he left Buffy knowing that they could never have a true relationship. He went to L.A, with Cordelia (an unlikely partner) and started a spin-off show, which many fans now claim is more than just a spin-off show.
