"I don't see why you need us. Angel's in a cage already." said Oz.
"I need to be in direct physical contact with Angel when Willow casts the spell.
- Well, why don't you go inside, then?
-Willow has to touch us both. If anything happened while we were in the cage, Angelus could easily slam the door and hold it shut. You have to be able to reach all of us at all times."
"Oh." said Xander. "I think this is w<hat they call a "don't-ask" question."
Giles drew a deep breath and said: "I've marked the page for you, Willow. All you have to do is read it. Turn to the red page-marker if things get nasty." He went to the door. "Angel?"
Angel had been lying motionless for several hours. This could mean the worst, but he was still there, even though he was exhausted.. He stood up with great effort. "Yes ?"
"Are you all right?
- For the moment.
- I'm going to open the door now.
- Have you found the spell?
- We'll go for second best this time."
He opened the cage and led Angel outside.
"Go ahead, Willow."
Willow opened the book with trembling hands. She found the page and read the spell out loud. She was holding Giles and Angel's hands and could feel a terrific amount of energy building up in the tips of her fingers. When she reached the end of the incantation she was very queasy.
Xander and Oz ran to her.
Cordelia looked at Angel and Giles. They were motionless.
