Chapter 4: Dreams and Reality The door blasted off its hinges as Kai threw fireball after fireball into the bridge of her ship. Her grij was still not working, so she reverted to magicking them to death. She was exhausted so much she nearly fell over, and her hands were bright red from the heat flowing through them. Her crew just watched in wonder at the fact that anyone, much less their own leader, would destroy the bridge of their ship.
�Kai!� Gorn ran down the hallway screaming her name and waving his arms like a madman. �Stop it before you destroy our ship!�
Kai continued to fire as if she had not even heard. Balls of flame roared to life in her hands, which were now blistering, and her eyes saw nothing but the fire in her hands, ignoring the fact that there were no more Hilians alive in the room.
�Damnit Kai! They�re gone! You killed every last one of them!� Still ball after ball formed in her hands and she continued to toss them in the bridge. �Kai!� Seeing that she was ignoring him, he raised his fist and slammed her in the temple, while she was igniting another fireball. The light in her hands went out and she slumped to the floor. �I only wish there was some other way.�
�Sir,� one of the soldiers left alive addressed Gorn, �Since Miss Kai is not awake right now you are in charge of the rest of us.�
�I guess I am.� A smile appeared on Gorn�s face. �I guess I am. Take Kai to a medical facility in this ship and get her hands patched up. I�m going to check if the hauss rifles are working yet. And clean up the bridge.� Gorn walked back to his room and lied down.
Strange dreams came to Kai that night. First she was running through an abandoned village in her home world. She searched every house and found no one, until she got to her house. She opened the door and her parents came out to greet her. The only thing wrong was that her parents were over 10 years dead.

This time she was in another world, one that was vaguely familiar. It had a sky so blue you couldn�t even see the black of space. She looked out of the room she was in to see a man in a white suit. She gave a start and looked at herself. She had chains going into her arms. The man walked through the clear pane in front of her and reached out toward her.

The number of floors in the tower in front of her had the effect of making the tower seem to go up forever. Light flashed out of the top and a person came flying out it, screaming all the way down. The body landed on the ground with a sickening thump, and rolled over so she could see its face. In a small number of seconds, she was staring into her own eyes. Her mouth opened for a scream and-

Lightning arced out of her hands, and she could not see her target through the brilliance. A bright glowing of light in front of her blinded her so she could not see at all. A hand reached out and grabbed her by the throat. She stared back into a face filled with hatred. The man holding her opened his mouth to scream and

Kai ran down the hallway and slammed into a wall that suddenly appeared in front of her. She moaned in pain and got back up suddenly. A shot came out of nowhere and she got hit in the side with a-

She looked up into the face of pure evil. Dark tan skin and a jagged scar running down the side of his face were his most apparent characteristics. His heavily muscled arm reached out and slapped her, leaving a red mark where he hit.
Kai rolled out from underneath him and stood up quickly. Her leg shot up and slammed the stranger in front of her against the wall on the far side of the room. It was then that she focused on her surroundings.
�Books. I�ve never seen so many books before.� She stared in amazement at rows upon rows of books that lined every wall. She turned around and pulled one off of the shelf directly behind her. She saw the name and stared in amazement.
�Do you like my little collection?�
�What the hell is going on? Who are you? And what the hell are these books?�
�You should know yourself what that one is. Open it to about the center.�
Kai opened the book and the pages flapped to a specific point. She started reading:
�She met the god of darkness and the world was doomed.�
She dropped the book in amazement, and sat down on the floor. Then you are the��
�Yes, I am the god of darkness. My name is Sel, remember it.� Sel smiled evilly, and his stare turned Kai�s stomach over and stopped her heart for an instant. He reached into his robe and pulled out a knife and let the light shine on the blade. �If you only realized that this is not a dream.� He drew the knife across the palm of her right hand, creating a blood red line. The pure black of the blade seemed not to get any blood on it.
�You are my creature now, and you shall do my bidding, whether you wish to or not.� Sel laughed.
�I will never-�

The world went white and all was nothing for Kai.
